This is my biggest problem with MMA to be honest. Submission grapplying tournaments like Naga do a much better job of picking winners with their point system. Yes, you get points for takedowns, but there are also points for position changes submission attempts (more points the closer it really was), etc.
I do agree with you that right now in MMA, it is sickening that you can not win a decision off your back. I do believe whoever created the situation to get to the ground should get "points" for that whether it be a takedown or pulling guard. I do agree with you 100%, that being on top does not necessarily mean you are winning the fight/round.
The sad thing is that this is out of the UFC's hands, this is a athletic commision problem. The judges need better "training" on how say a Naga or Abu Dhabi submission grappling tournament is scored and apply that type of thinking once the fight hits the mat (with striking scoring added in obviously).
You and I are 100% on the same page with this one.
