He wasn't the only candidate who interviewed for the job who is married to a WHS grad with local roots. Haas's inlaw's are Columbus transplants, but demographics should not play into job consideration for a program. Completely disappointed in the administration on how this whole process was handled. The other candidates never got a phone call until yesterday that there was not going to be second interviews. Wooster had this a done deal before they started. The quote from Keller in the DR made it sound like the other candidates were junior high league compared to Haas. Definitely not the case.

Doug's wife was a standout athlete in volleyball and basketball and also played softball and ran track in high school. She is also member of WHS Sports HOF. She played for current WHS principal, Anita Jorney-Gifford. Doug didn't beat Orrville when he was at Triway. The best indicator of future behavior is to exam past behavior. And might I add those weren't playoff quality Red Riders teams.

Imagine what Wooster's record would be year in and year out if they played a DI schedule! If you want to get in the playoffs, start scheduling up, oh, my bad, you first need to win games and it's clear that you can't even do that against DIV teams.

well, they almost got in this year and that was at 4-5 entering the Orrville game - still don't know how that happened.
seems to me earlier in the 2000s, but after Wooster joined the OCC, 2 of its 3 ooc games were Perry and GlenOak.

This is all tongue-in-cheek and the Orrville guys that know me on here would know that. And I'll take you guys on for who has the toughest non-league game scheduled next year too.

I do understand the fine line between schedule and wins. I think the issue here is that they needed a win against a DIV team and they couldn’t do it.
I hope coach Haas gets a good staff and is supported by the community and get this thing turned around.

People bitched about the old coach, and now they are bitching about the new coach ( who hasn't even started).

Have 2 really disagree, why don't you think it's one of the most coveted FB jobs in the area? Biggest school in area and more kids to pick from, likely bigger pay check when teaching or admin. position is factored in and chance to win against bigger schools w/ brighter spotlight. I didn't say it would be easy - it'll be tough - but that's laughable to think a lot of people wouldn't want this opportunity.

Agreed Wooster will be withdrawing from the City Series to up its non-lg schedule :thumbup:, including Chagrin Falls starting next yr. They're also trying to add a better D-I or II, but you can't just jump in playing all D-I playoff teams in non-conf w/ where they're at. I like the pick for Haas and he has shown the ability to really turn around programs that were way under .500 right before he took over. Not sure he's ever really had great talent to work with, but Wooster could provide him with the best players he's had yet. Any of the five finalists would have been good, but I can see why they went with him. Obviously none of us were in interview room w/ the others, but i was surprised someone else didn't get another interview, especially Durbin or Seder.

The bottom line to this is...it doesn't matter who the coach is if the kids won't buy into their program or bust their butts to improve.

It sure does matter who the coach is! The "right" coach will get the kids excited about the program! That's the first thing he will be working on!

Medina,Wadsworth, Strongsville,Brunswick would be nice additions to choose from!

BRF is surprised that there wasn't a second round, also. Opinion: not good to do it that way.

In some cases it is clear that one candidate is better prepared and comes across much stronger than the others. If that was the case in Woo then why waste peoples time going through the second interview? Time will tell if they got it right or not!
