"A school will be busted for recruiting." These were YOUR words Sept., how foolish do you feel? No, seriously, how foolish? Surprisingly, you're not as knowledgable as you try to let on.

After reading the series in the Cleveland Plain Dealer about the recruiting wars that go on between the Cleveland area parochials, I think it's a complete joke that they spent even ten seconds in Massillon and apparently not a second in Cleveland or Youngstown.

Rocket, only one (1) L in alot.

Every school that has a successful sports team is accused of recruiting. We get this in Steubenville all the time. The truth is that any 14-year-old football player who thinks he has a chance of getting a college scholarship would rather play for a good team that gets a lot of exposure. It doesn't matter whether the school is public or private, if it has a good team, then the best players in the area will gravitate towards it. Massillon, Steubenville, Mooney, Iggy, Glenville, and a few others get all the attention. That's why they get so many good players.

Despite the fact that Massillon was cleared in the investigation by the OHSAA, alot of people on this and other sites have made comments regarding their lack of confidence in the findings. Comments like, "Not actually allot of confidence in the investigation by the OHSAA, why'd they even bother?" (by Rocket08) (disclaimer, Rocket spelled alot with two L's, not me, I just qouted him). And before the investigation was completed, this little gem from our friend September63, "A school will be busted for recruiting." So, since so many of you are so sure that Massillon makes regular practice of recruiting, (but nobody has any proof), this is your chance to tell your story. So. Has anybody ever been contacted by someone from Massillon, be it a coach, administrator, overzealous fan, to "transfer" and play football? Let's hear your story, and please, let's hear YOUR....story, none of this, "my friend said that his cousins uncles best friend told him that so and so did this or that"....Here is your chance. Let's hear it. Ready, set, GO.

Massillon has never won a championship on the field of play in a playoff format. That's the story.

This is about "recruiting", that's it. It's a chance for the people who are so sure that Massillon recruits, to tell us how they know for certain that someone has been "recruited" or that "the recruitment" of someone has been attempted, by Massillon. We can get into your jealousy at another time, thank you for your cooperation.

Anybody?

Massillon hasn't won a state championship in 40 years. If they are so good at recruiting, why haven't they won any since then?

I wasn't trying to bash Massillon. I am really a Massillon supporter. We Big Red people have a great deal of respect for your program.

I was just trying to point out the obvious. The Massillon bashers claim that Massillon recruits all kinds of players. You would imagine that if this were true, then Massillon should have won at least a half dozen playoff championships over the years.

You notice that I said that you have not won in forty years. That means that I (along with everyone else from Big Red) recognize your pre-1972 titles. You had to go through us to get most of those titles, so we certainly do respect them.

Actually, genius, we're both wrong

Alot isn't a word

But I wasn't dumb enough to correct someone incorrectly

Also, since you're now the spelling police, learn how to spell parochials

The man brings up a valid point. If, and I stress if, Massillon is recruiting where are the benefits? You would think that they would have snuck at least one title in there. Usually people who are jealous of success accuse teams of recruiting but in Massillon's case I believe it is just plain hatred that drives these people.

I don't know if it's true, but "somewhere else" I read where Steubenville has applied to join the ECOL with Dover and New Phila. Again, don't know if it's true, but if it is....let's just say....Hey Dover, you had a good run.

Seriously though, I don't see them voting Steubenville in. Kind of like Massillon and the Federal League.

Yes, the word is that Big Red wants in. Knowing Big Red administrators, I don't think they would apply if they weren't absolutely sure of being accepted. I can't speak for Dover and most of the other ECOL schools, but I do know that New Philly wants to beef up their schedule. They went 9-1 this past season and failed to make the playoffs. Any team that could beat Big Red would likely at least win the region. In the long run, that may help Dover, too.
