There will be ads sponsoring the event. If a particular ad has a promotion, and you did not see the promotion, you will not take part in the promotion. This goes all the way back to the sponsors(the ones with the money) and they can make a decision whether to bid for the spot next year. If the impact of the promotion wasn't felt in the numbers, they may withdraw the bid. Now, there will always be some company desperate for national exposure, but if there are less companies competing for the sponsorship, the price will be less, which translate to less money for the schools and the NCAA.
