Teams scrambled to add another non-conference game anywhere they could. All conferences did it. But the SEC had been playing cupcakes late for years. They like to play confernce games early. It gives them marqee match ups in prime time while everyone else is playing at noon and 3:30. I think South Carolina played Georgia in week two this year, as did Auburn and Mississippi State. Florida and Tennessee played in week three.
Ok? What is lame about any of that? What about that should have any bearing at all on whether Alabama plays in the MNC game this year?

Here is what matters as far as Alabama and Oklahoma State:

the numbers 8 and 3, and 10 and 38

The number of teams with winning records that Oklahoma State and Alabama beat and their strength of schedules, respectively. THREE!! Three FBS teams with winning records. That's pathetic. But because the ESPN sellouts like Mark May and Kirk Herbstriet tell you Alabama is better, you believe it. And I'll guess we'll never get to find out, because ESPN would never allow their cash cow SEC team to face an offense like Oklahoma State's.

The only reason I might watch is if there is nothing else to do or watch. I watched the regular season snoozefest between LSU and Alabama. Not sure I want to watch again unless I need a nap.

Well said. Nobody wants to admit that the SEC just wasn't very good this year. Outside of 'Bama and LSU, you had a few average teams, and the rest were pretty bad. SEC is living of reputation right now, not actual performance.

Which is exactly why rematches should not happen in the BCS Championship Game. They give us no further insight into either team nor their relative strength to the rest of the college football world.

My only problem with this is that you punish a school for playing a #1 team, that happens to be in their league (and division in this case), but not other teams for losing a game.

If all things are equal, except Alabama loses to #1 LSU, and Ok. State loses to Iowa State, why Ok. State deserve to play in the NCG?

I may tune in for it but probably won't have much interest, going to be getting settled back in after traveling to Anaheim the previous weekend.

But if they already played the supposed #1 team and lost, then they won't be punished as they had their shot and lost. It's not like they did not have the opportunity. Now Oklahoma State, who has played a more difficult schedule in a statistically better conference won't get a chance. Imagine if OSU/Michigan rematch happened. We would have just continued to think those were the two best teams in college football that year whichever won. That's exactly the scenario we have again this year.

'Bama lost at home. OSU lost on the road, in double overtime, hours after a school tragedy. With that being said, it would be more fair to LSU and OSU for those two to play in the NCG.

So it's more fair for what reason? Iowa State is terrible.

Loss vs. LSU at home > Loss away at ISU.

Sorry, I just can't get past a team losing to such a bad team and being considered over someone who took #1 to overtime.

It's not that I'm "for" the rematch. I just can't see how someone else is #2.

OSU best team in the best conference, Alabama not even #2 in their own conference. It's fraud.

What has 'Bama done to be considered the 2nd best team? They couldn't win their own division, let alone conference. They lost the only big game they played. They've done nothing to deserve the #2 ranking. They're living on reputation at this point.

Only on technicality...

Alabama > Georgia. That was proven Saturday night.

We need a playoff.

Bama has beaten 3 FBS teams with winning records. OK St has beat 8.

Agree on the playoff.

You guys sure like the pump up the "they couldn't win their division/conference". DUH! They had to play the #1 team in the country, who they took to overtime, to even be able to play for the conference title.

Meantime, Okie State loses to ISU.

'

And won their conference. And had a tougher schedule. And beat more teams with winning records.

I can accept that argument much more than the rematch argument. But I can't get over losing to ISU. That's it.

My hope is that 'Bama wins so that it becomes a case of a second place team being the National Champ and the ratings are terrible. About the only way you are gonna get them to fix this is to have it hit them in the pocketbook, and maybe then they'll make sure this kind of stuff doesn't happen again. No intra conference National Championship games without a playoff ...period! A playoff system is doable but they have been dragging their feet because of the cash cow that the current system is. I said I'd would 'maybe' watch this game, being a CFB fan.... but the more I think about it...I just might boycott it. It is just ridiculous that the crown jewel of college football is a game that has already been seen. 'Bama had their shot, and they have done nothing since that earned them a rematch.

Point is, Alabama had their shot and lost. They had a chance to beat the #1 team in the country and lost. Time to give someone else a chance because we at least know, on the field, that LSU is a better team than Alabama. We don't know about OK ST.

I don't disagree, but that's not what the BCS does. That is what a playoff does. So as long as people so CFB cannot possibly have a playoff, this is the system we have. Arguing over number 2.

You still haven't touched on why 'Bama should be #2. Is it because they lost to the #1 team, and beat a few teams with winning records? Also, Iowa State was 6-6, so let's not make it sound like they were just a terrible team.
