Well I did play. But that is a stupid and asinine thing to say. Believe it or not it is possible to understand the game without playing.

I love how the coaches haven't been responsible at all for this monstrosity of a game.

Understanding that there is only so much the coaches can do is definitely something that comes from experience of playing. Being in practices, game prep, film prep etc. The average fan who has never played has no knowledge of such things.
