4:00? Bad time for me, I will be coming back through the Lattasburg area around 6:00, too bad the scrimmage isn't at that time.

Last week NWN was in Mansfield and they changed the times, didn't really tell anybody. It is not like it is announced etc, kind of disappointing when you show up to watch and no one is there. Anyway, it might be worth your while to make a small detour while in Lattasburg and see if they are playing at a later time because of this heat.

I checked with a buddy of my last night to see if he knew Norwayne's 7 on 7 schedule. I'm not sure how accurate he is but he tells me that they are going up against Massillon tomorrow night at Paul Brown. Next week they have a multi-team 7 on 7 at Ashland University one day and a single 7 on 7 against Ashland the following day. Again, I'm not sure how accurate he is but that's what he's hearing

Triway and Hillsdale had a 7-on-7 last night. Hillsdale started off very well, and Triway caught up once they got in the groove. Even though Hillsdale lost plenty of good players, they looked pretty good on both sides of the ball early, especially offense. From under center all night, they threw all sorts of routes from all sorts of angles. Their receivers were strong and used their hands well, and the QB threw a NICE ball! Throw in an OL and a running game, and I can see them scoring some points.

WCAL predictions look pretty good to me. Any of top 4 could win it if they get off to a good start. I think Norwayne will miss their QB more than they think on both sides of the ball. Other area teams: With size and speed, I have heard Loudonville is loaded and may make a run in playoffs; Do not see Orrville in playoffs this season, as they will miss a lot of there seniors from last season and they will get smoked in game #1; Triway will struggle and get smoked first game; With their team speed, I could see Wooster winning OCC this season, if they can stop anyone (Lex should be strong too); Cloverleaf??; Anything less than the playoffs and at least one win for WH should be a dissapointment, as this senior class is the one they have been waitning on and the reason coach K. was brought in

I agree with the forecast for Orrville. They lost a lot of playmakers and touches to graduation, and they will find it difficult to replace that production with guys who have little to no experience. Triway better be incredibly quick, because they certainly don't have much size. I look for Wooster to be solid under the new regime as Haas definitely knows how to infuse excitement into a program and community. Should be a fun season for area football.

6-7 starters back on each side of the ball is hardly "little, to no experience". There is plenty of skill guys back and several incoming sophs that will play big roles this season. Just keep doubting the Riders...we like that!

Smithville went to Triway last night. The Smithies are definitely behind the Hillsdale Falcons, after seeing both on back-to-back nights. Bates threw a LOT of lobs and not much else most the night. I was surprised. Their receivers had their moments, but didn't impress me near as much as Hillsdale's. Hillsdale's QB threw a much better ball, too. Triway started slow against Hillsdale but was playing with or better than them in the situational play towards the end. Last night Triway was the better team basically the whole night. But again, it's just 7-on-7, and an early one at that. Triway travels to Bucyrus this Saturday, and then to Kent Roosevelt next Wednesday.

So we can expect more of the Wing-T from the new coach?

Haha. Yes. Plenty of 2-back, 2 wing formations last night with play-action and all going out for routes.

A large percentage of the touches went to Brenner, Monheim, and Turner, and that type of production is difficult to replace for ANY team. How many plays did each of them sit out per game? That is what was meant by little to no experience. It is commendable, however, that you are standing up for the up-and-comers.

Hillsdale looked nice at the Bucyrus 7-on-7. Unfortunately, their 2 losses both seem to have been to the runners-up, Clear Fork. Also, congrats to Hillsdale's linemen on winning the tug of war championship! (I'm not sure how they finished in overall linemen standings) Here's my write-up:

Since I work in Massillon I got to see Orrville and Norwayne participate in a 7 on 7 on different days at the stadium this week. I wont comment on Orrville on the WCAL thread or the Orrville thread. Let's just say it wasn't good. I thought I would comment on Norwayne. I was shocked at how well Norwayne did. I know it is only a passing scrimmage but the only team that belonged on the field with them was Massillon. I'm not sure who won between the 2 of them but it was close. Massillon for some reason would not continue their drives when they got inside the 5. They kept acting like they had scored. That happened 3 or 4 times and I think it still ended up a tie with Massillon scoring on the last play. That being said I think Norwayne actually beat them. I spoke to one of the Norwayne players dads and he told me no one has even come close to them in a 7 on 7 yet this year including a 25 team tourney in Pennsylvania about a month ago that they won. Norwaynes 2 wideouts are very big and the slots are extremely good. The new QB is definitely not Wallace but did a pretty good job. I'm shocked at how good they looked. It will be interesting to see how the QB holds up under pressure.

7 on 7's already! Time really does fly. I had alot of catching up to do, hadn't been on this site for a bit. I skimmed each page though....took awhile. Let me recap what I already knew and a few things I learned.....
Norwayne's team last year was legit and Orrville should want no part of the WCAL. :p jk
Smithville has some devious, yet genius shot-callers on their BOE, got what they wanted.
Coach B will do a good job, even though the circumstances will hover like a dark cloud.
Cats still aren't safe in Mr. Miyagi's neighborhood.
O-trap is still the king of the multi-quote.
Go Falcons still has his bell.
Them boys in the creek can wrestle, 1_beast should be proud.
thePITman, the4ringz, Red Rum, Bloody Toothbrush, dhs22p, 1486wd, I find all your posts either funny or informative or both, you regulars along with the Orrville posters and the guys mentioned above keep this site worth visiting. Here's how I see the leauge breaking down
1.)Norwayne, return alot, Wallace will be missed. Respect alone for last season has them number 1. Plus all their new recruits, I mean move ins.
2.)Northwestern, poised to make a run, need to stay healthy (like everyone else).
3.)Dalton, them boys play with so much heart, they are due for a good season.
4.)Hillsdale, could be as high as 1. could be as low as 6. They will reload and will be in every game.
5.)Waynedale, wrasslin season success will carry over, they could be ranked alot higher
6.)Smithville, a mud-hole stomping by Loudonville week one will have the Godfather faithfuls causing dissention.-jk although L-ville will be legit this season and a week one loss may throw the season off-course. hopefully not.
7.)Chippewa
8.)Rittman
In closing Paul and Bobcatmom's posts have been missed. :D Bobcats Stalk!
Go Falcons!

Smithville will be put to the test right out of the gate with The Redbirds.

Northwestern gets curb-stomped in Mogadore.

Hillsdale loses by a couple of points in Manchester. I will post a PSA for Falcon fans prior to the game on how to survive your trip to Bob France Stadium. (Here's a hint...start stocking up now on Astroglide and anti-herpes medication.)

Waynedale abuses Triway.

Dalton v. Tuslaw lives up to the billing of a back yard brawl.

Anyone else have other OOC predictions?

Loudonville is going to get the Besancon era off to an 0-1 start.....probably will saddle the Falcons with their first setback as well.

The OCC will have a good year in terms of playoff teams....I'm guessing at least 3 and probably 4.......including Orrville....and maybe Wooster.

Triway starts 0-3 on the way to a sub 500 campaign....2013 will be much better for the Titans.

Cloverleaf is toast....long time coach Bob Lake returns to find the cupboard empty and the Suburban League tough.

Tuslaw at Dalton will be MUCH closer than last years 35-14 result.

Overall, the WCAL went 10-14 out of conference last year....Anybody think the conference improves on that this year?

I'm hoping for at least 14-10....but I almost always give the WCAL too much credit.

I know Loudonville should be tough. They have a large talented group, but remember they are under a new coach. I can't for the life of me remember if the hire was from within or not but if it isn't.... Week 1 might be a closer game then it should be.

After this year we'll be losing Lane Drake, Kyle Kearney, Luke Boreman, Justen Copley, Nate Genet, Kyle Schuler, Greg Hamlin, Brody Horner, and others. Will be tough to fill all those spots, especially the "skilled positions".

I agree they are losing a lot of talent after this season, but that current Sophomore class is loaded with talent so the drop off won't be as great as might be anticipated. However, these younger kids need to get into the system and get acclimated to playing, something that needs improvement there.
