Sounds like Hillsdale and Northwestern put on a show. I talked to a guy that said Norwayne was up 40-0 at the half....looks like another interesting year of WCAL football.

The Norwayne game was interesting tonight to say the least. 40-0 at the half. Norwayne got very complacent in the 2nd half. Note to the coaches: if your not going to come out and call the full play book up by 40 in the 2nd half, take the 1st string off the field. Using a watered down gameplan with the 1's on the field doesn't work. Take em' off the field or play ball. The coaching in this game stunk. The new QB threw 4 TD's in the 1st half and it seemed like he threw for a ton of yards. He literally threw the ball up on many occasions. It's no secret that the receiving corp on this team is it's strength. They made some amazing catches and overpowered Wellington all night. The new QB will put up huge numbers this year and really doesnt throw a great ball. Once the opposing team backs everyone out of the box to stop the passing game the running backs pretty much walk into the end zone, I've watched for 2 years and it's time to give these boys credit. They can flat out catch. I dont see anyone in the league that can cover all 4. The Defense struggled at times but I look for them to get better as they play. There is a lot of new faces starting. Tonight was a good step

Just read the paper this morning and if i wouldnt have been at the game i would have thought Norwayne lost.......Harbour really let his team have it. We did win 47-7. Yes we did play like crap the second half not sure what happen in the locker room at half but we were not prepared for the changes Wellington made(once again)....there was alot of positives in the game QB threw for almost 300 yards, every WR caught atleast 2 or 3 passes for alot of yards, had 2 different RB score and the O line gave up only 1 sack and thats because Harris got a cramp on a screen play and couldnt move....the D was tough....i think 6 sacks.....LB played alot better then they did in the scrimmage against Loudenville..D Line looked good.

Some of the negatives.......we came out flat and lazy the second half I think it was both the Coaches and players fault for that. after Harris's kickoff return was called back, (which should have never been called a hold it was 30 yards away from the play and on the other side of the field,) the coaches went nuts running up and donw the side line acting like fools yelling and scream at anybody that walked by them.....one coach even got in the face of the little ball boy and screamed at him for giving him the wrong ball.... I talked to some of the boys after the game last night and they all knew they came out flat in the second half and they were not happy about it and they said it would not happen again, they just flat out got lazy and Wellington came out fired up and it took alittle bit to adjust.

All in all the Bobcats looked good last night, yes there is still some work to do and some adjustments to be made but show me a team that doesnt need adjustments after the first game.

Old Dawg;1254420 wrote:Have to agree with dhs22p, Dalton looked better than last year. However I"m not quite sure how much closer it should have been besides 42-6. Love my dawgs, but I thought the final score was an indication of how the game played out. First half was very competitive, pups had a few turnovers and went into halftime down 14-0. Defense played a solid first half, secondary played well and the defensive line was getting some pressure on the qb. Then in the second half things just gradually went downhill. Few kids got banged up a bit, Garaway scores a quick td on a punt return and next thing you know it's 42-0. We managed to punch one in the endzone when both jv teams were on the field. Thought the kids played hard and and it was good to see a garaway kid hurl on the field, sweet! Looking forward to the Tuslaw game next week and hopefully getting our first win. Go Dawgs!
Ya my point was that it was way more competitive then that score. But what I like is the Dogs can learn a lot from this game. I still believe there were a lot of positives. I really liked the way Raines played last night definitely our best player last night.

I was there and yes, the tuba player beat a Duke CB on a post route and picked up 27 yards. Next week the cheerleaders get to play in the second half.

Geez Bobcat....I thought Harbour coached well, called off the dogs at the correct time and the QB looked good. I also think Wellington got their butts reamed at halftime and came out with some fire. You won by 40, all the domination & winning might be spoiling you guys.

NWN - Crestview in the eyes of sydfl:

Offense:
  • Passing - although a couple of long bombs padded the stats a little, QB / WR just not connecting mostly. 5 of 10 passing and missed opportunities. Some over and under throws and some bad routes at time cost us some yards
  • Running - Minus the slow start in the first possession, the running game was really good with a stable of RBs getting the ball. Long, hard runs and some good scramble from the QB when he was in trouble. Was good to see some good ball pounding last night that was actually going somewhere
  • O-Line - Done their part last night. Still an area that needs work but looked better last night than any day I have watched so far.
Defense:
  • Passing - gave up some silly yards last night. Outside spurs not dropping far enough into coverage and secondary giving way to much cushion for me to like. We did give up a couple bomps but had the bend don't break mentality
  • Rushing - the start was rough to watch with Crestview taking it right up the gut to the Huskies. I think it was 7 or 8 plays and TD on the first drive. After that, some adjustments we made and the run D looked every bit the part that we have been hearing about. Lots of pressure on the QB that should have been some more sacks but the Crestview QB was just throwing it up instead of taking the sack, hence the 4 INTs we had
  • D-Line - see above for rushing. Had a horrible start and Crestview pushed them around the field on the first drive. They still need work here to close those gaps up and not get caught out of position and balance.
Overall: Good start for the Huskies. First time since 07 they have started with a win for the season opener. Coaches looked relaxed and the play calling was different than most years of past in that we rarely seen the same play over again. Was refreshing for all to see. I would have hoped for a little more foot on the throat attitude. We do have some paybacks to catch up on that teams had no problem doing to us during our down times....Go Huskies!
