I think a fitting end to this season (even though imo it would be a travesty for Alabama to get in) would be an undefeated LSU facing a 1 loss Alabama for the NC and Alabama beats LSU by a FG or less. Then what??

Then Alabama is the BCS National Champion, and the AP could vote whomever they wanted and pretend people care about that.

Bama is one of the best teams. I don't disagree. BUT, they had their shot vs LSU, AT HOME and LOST. Someone else deserves a chance IMO.

Every other team had their shot to be in the title game and lost as well.

Not vs #1 team, on their home turf.

2 teams play twice and both have wins and Alabama is somehow crowned NC?

Who would win the National Championship game in that scenario?

Ok, other teams lost to worse teams than Bama.

So if the Steelers beat the packers in a regular season game last year, would the packers be any less champions?

Every game doesnt make or break your season in the NFL like it does in college.

Apples to oranges, the NFL has a playoff system teams have to go thru to get to the Super Bowl. Not 6 computer rankings (that are secret) telling us who should go

That doesn't happen in college either, otherwise undefeated teams would never get left out and teams with losses would never play for the title.

I think the problem that the people who are opposed to a rematch have is that they've actually bought into the "every game matters" BCS bullshit, which has never been true.

If by "somehow" you actually meant by winning the National Championship game, then yes.

Most every season, if you are in an AQ conference, every game does matter. The only way to basically guarantee you have a shot to be in the championship is win every game. Obviously there are the exceptions, like Auburn in the early 2000s, but they are very rare. So yes, I still stick to the statement that every game matters.

At the end of the year you almost never see 2 undefeated teams playing for the national title.

It's usually a matter of picking one 1-loss team over the other ones. If four teams finish 11-1 but one of them still makes the national title game, clearly every game doesn't matter.

Ohio State's loss to Illinois in 2007 didn't matter. If LSU lost this game it wouldn't matter. Oklahoma losing the Big 12 championship in 2003 didn't matter.

the only way that the "every game counts" mantra would be in play would be if you did some sort of conference champion style tournament (e.g. 6 aq champs and 2 at large)

And if one of those 4 teams who went 11-1 didnt lose a game, they would be in the title game.If you honestly dont believe that every game counts in a system that is set up like the BCS, we just have to agree to disagree.

The fact that there is a chance that TWO teams who didn't win their conference could play for the National Championship is an embarrassment to the BCS and all of college football.

Everyone forgets what the Okla St football team had to deal with playing in this game. That would be very, very tough to play after that happens. That should be considered especially since it was a 2ot game.

Lets just use Mark May's logic...

Alabama is still undefeated IN REGULATION

Oklahoma St is still undefeated IN REGLULATION, and it took one more overtime for Oklahoma St to get beat than it did Bama.

Therefore, OK St > Bama

btw, I was mocking Mark May for those of you who will take it literally.

But another point for OSU's case... Their low ranked defense is what I keep hearing about. How about they are ranked #1 in the FBS in takeaways.
Another team that has a great offense, yet a defense that gives up a lot of yards and some points, yet creates a lot of turnovers.. THE GREEN BAY PACKERS.

Also, i am not sure why the missed Fg was not reviewed that would have won the game for Okla St. It looked good in the replays.

Bring on OSU. Thats who should get a shot. As J crazy once said, why should LSU have to beat Bama twice and a SEC title game to win the title, and bama just beat LSU once and sit at home?
