Also if a team can't even MAKE their conference title game, let alone win their conference, they don't deserve to play for the National Title.

Only a playoff would PROVE that Alabama truly is one of the two best teams in the country.

seeing that there is no way to prove who the top two teams are without a playoff, I have to disagree.

congrats. the so called "#1" defense in all of college football gave up more points, at home, than Citadel and Appy State. LOL

I dont need a counter argument. That was my initial argument, that the Citadel and Appy State apparently have better defenses than Alabama, since stats mean everything. And since stats mean everything, yards per game is inferior to points given up per game.

Also, the year OSU won the Rose Bowl we lost to Purdue and USC. Oregon beat Purdue and USC. Oregon was the better team..right??...RIGHT?

Ummm, playoffs don't decide the #2 team either. Two of the four team in the semifinals could be #2.

Of course, I don't believe that playoffs would necessarily decide the #1 team either. It only does so in theory.

They dont, but you can at least match the 1 loss teams up against each other to prove who is better. No system is perfect, but a playoff system would produce more of a real champion than the current one.

You can't go strictly off of points allowed either. Garbage TDs, like Penn state scoring in the last two minutes against Bama, skew those numbers. That late TD led some geniuses (like Pick6) to think that wasn't a dominating game from Bama.

Well you also gotta know how bad penn states offense is also. I live near state college so I watch a lot of there games and there offense is worse than ohio states.

The point is, the top two rated teams are matched up. That is the system. What the public wants to see, what match up would be the most "entertaining", or whether or not the two teams have already played is 100% irrelevant.

Bama and LSU are the best two teams after that who the hell knows. I am not impressed with ok state, ark, vtech, boise, standford or anyone else really. Will this all stop when OK beats ok state tmr
