The things that ESPN said Stoops wanted. ND only gave in for number 4 apparently:
1. 2 academic exemptions per year over 4 years. ND said nope.
2. A player eating area so that the coaches can have better control of player diets. ND said no they will eat with everyone else.
3. Stoops wanted to handle all disciplinary issues with players unless it involves a crime. ND said no.
4. Stoops wanted a few JUCO's to be admitted. ND said fine as long as they meet the academic requirements of all students.

Kudos to ND for not bending on things they think are important, although they could have bent the rules for #2.... not sure that's a HUGE deal.

I have some friends of my own who are furious at me as well.

ND prides itself on making the athletes a normal part of the student body and wants them to be integrated in with the rest of the community-like campus, that's why I'd say they didn't bend on that one. I wouldn't have cared personally though, but I guess they don't want to create an attitude that the athletes are better than the rest of the student body

I don't understand why you wouldn't give into #2.
Anyone care to explain what an "academic exemption" means?

Also, the following is on the front of the NDNation website: Brian Kelly will be the next head coach at Notre Dame. Kelly informed his current team that he was leaving for the Irish Thursday night. Notre Dame first targeted Bob Stoops, but despite fast progress and interest on both sides, negotiations fell apart late last week. We will share what we can about the process next week. Kelly will not coach the Bearcats in the Sugar Bowl against Florida. A formal announcement is expected tomorrow.

I'm no "golden domer" but you have to admire the university sticking to its core beliefs.

How can this be when in another post someone posted that the A.D. from Notre Dame said they had not talked to anyone but Coach Kelly about this job?

Someone bright up a good point on Irish illustrated. Say they made 85 exemptions, their whole footbal team basically. That is less than 1 percent of the student body. Obviously they wouldn't need that many expemtions, but just some food for thought.

You sure do, but you have to laugh at their fans who expect them to compete at the highest level.ghosthunter wrote: I'm no "golden domer" but you have to admire the university sticking to its core beliefs.

Think Freddie Lenix from Glenville, class of maybe '03? Tons of talent, but never made it onto the field for the buckeyes. Couldn't handle the academics, so he decided on the JUCO route for 1-2 years, then possibly come back. JUCO didn't work either.Sonofanump wrote:Think T.J. On another thread I posted how a freshman @ ND is expected to walk into a college level calculus class. There are no high school calc refresher courses @ ND which is what a academic exception individual would require.

You're very correct. However if BK can return to a competetive level, touchdown Jesus will have a touchdown Kelly to converse with on those cold windy South Bend days.SQ_Crazies wrote:You sure do, but you have to laugh at their fans who expect them to compete at the highest level.ghosthunter wrote: I'm no "golden domer" but you have to admire the university sticking to its core beliefs.

Still doesn't mean they'll be able to play defense. I'm not sold on Kelly competing at the highest level. The Big East is not the highest level.

The fact that they wouldn't give in to some of those makes me laugh. Especially that one.
