What are the "acceptable" actions for the salesman and the person who answers the door?
Last Wednesday before Turkey Day I was home and getting the house ready for company the next day. I hear a booming knock of the front door. I answer and a perky semi-attractive woman starts talking. Once I realized what her purpose was I said "I only buy cheap ($49-75) sweepers and she says "what rooms do you want us to clean for free?" I told her the walkway in the dining room and the family room would be great....but I will not buy. She ignores me and asks to see the rooms. I let her in, she looks at it for 10 seconds and then calls in the kid (salesman) who is going to sweep and shampoo. The kid carries in the "machine" He's yapping a 1,000 miles an hour and just spewing crap talk everywhere. He demonstrates everything (it was awesome...but I don't give a shit about sweepers or the 86 things the Kirby could do. He sweeps and sweeps and sweeps, then has me sweep. Then he hands me a price....lulz $2189. I told him he couldn't get anywhere near where I'd even consider....didn't want a sweeper. He gives me a paper with blank lines for total price and monthly payment as he goes to shampoo the carpet.....after nearly THREE hours of insulting my intelligence and cleaning my carpet to new he kept going down to $899 (after several pretend phone calls to his boss)
All in all.....I didn't buy and everyone involved knew it but 2 of them didn't care. He was rude and bitchy when he finally came to terms with my no.
My carpet is very clean!
Was I wrong in allowing them to clean and shampoo?

You pull out your penis, say "sell this", and then close the door on them. Anything less is unacceptable.

I guess I'm glad it wasn't the back of the Ford Ranger traveling meat salesman.

I had the same thing happen to me a month or two ago. I have all hardwood. I have a 5x7 rug in the living room and an 8x10 in the bedroom. The girl spent 2 hours cleaning all of my furniture. Then she brought in another girl to seal the deal. She told me $2289 and I told her that I would start the negotiations at $289. They spent the next awkward 15 mins packing up and left.
As a side note, would it have been illegal to ask the girl to do the presentation nude?

Oh....Kirby isn't sold in stores.
Their lines are awesome.
It did take him forever to pack up. I gave him a Mountain Dew during the shampoo stage.

I'd buy the Kirby at full price before I'd read that thread.

My wife let a Kiby salesman in one day, and then he wouldn't leave. I got home from work and he wouldn't leave, and every time I asked him to he would try to show me another feature or call his "boss", so I told him he had 30 seconds to get his crap off my property. After the 30 seconds were up I called the cops. He thought I was joking. Turns out he didn't even have a permit to sell door to door. I haven't had a problem with Kirby salesmen since.

I own a kirby. The salesman got to see me naked. So the "whip your peen out" suggestion is not legit. Sometimes I hate my wife, and everytime I have to carry that 50 lb awkward piece of shit upstairs is one of those times.

They show up a good bit in my neighborhood. I usually send them over to this other guy's house who I cant stand. I watch them walk over to his house ring and ring the bell, ask for him by name then I see him come to the door and steam roll out of his ears. I've done this to him at least 6 times.

We had a Kirby growing up, that thing was heavy as hell but worked well.
There is no way in hell I would ever let those people in my house, though. Unless you're here for a scheduled appointment that I called to se up, you are not getting in my front door.

one of my friends was in training to become a salesman and i agreed to let him come and do a presentation...first of all i have known him for 20 years and he should know im not spending 2 grand on a effing sweeper...i was just newly married and the inlaws were in town and between him and his punk ass boss he tried to make it seem like i would let their daughter live in an environment that wasnt as clean as it could be because this sweeper would clean all of the dust particles out of the air and carpet or wtf ever...i had to tell them to gtfu especially when i saw the price...my buddy was mad at me for like a week cause i didnt buy the sweeper, but i was like u asked me to help you train jackass. smh
