Given the "success" of previous Boise coaches he'll have to give it some thought, but it could be a good time to jump given U$C's sanctions will start to be felt over the next 2-3 years and the Pac-12 south is atrocious.Boise State's Chris Petersen will be the first coach UCLA Athletic Director Dan Guerrero will approach about the Bruins' football job, according to influential people with knowledge of the situation who are not authorized to speak publicly on the matter.
Guerrero, who on Monday announced the firing of Rick Neuheisel, is expected to make a trip to Boise to meet with Petersen. UCLA is believed to be able to offer a contract worth more than $3 million annually that includes donations from boosters.

I doubt he leaves Boise for UCLA. It is a coaching graveyard. Nobody can seem to win there. He can do better than that

Doubling his yearly salary and moving him from Idaho to California? That would be hard to pass up.

$3 mill doesn't seem like that much for Petersen..they can do better than that

Yeah but if he takes that job and doesn't win there it will be the last $3 million contract he gets. You are thinking too short-sighted.bradmaynard;991977 wrote:Doubling his yearly salary and moving him from Idaho to California? That would be hard to pass up.

I don't disagree but if he can win at Boise he may believe that he can win at a school like UCLA.jordo212000;991965 wrote:I doubt he leaves Boise for UCLA. It is a coaching graveyard. Nobody can seem to win there. He can do better than that

I'm surprised his name hasn't been brought up in the PSU mix.

PSU may be forced to tread water until the shitstorm settles down, hiring someone from within or a lesser candidate.hoops23;992034 wrote:I'm surprised his name hasn't been brought up in the PSU mix.

True. But with USC on the other end of town and no real "winning" tradition, UCLA is an uphill battle.KR1245;992033 wrote:I don't disagree but if he can win at Boise he may believe that he can win at a school like UCLA.
I think they struggle to get a top flight coach. I can see them panicking and throwing a ton of money at Mike Leach

I see Greg Schiano as their next head coach. Both need each other now. At one point Schiano was a hot commodity and he has now that has cooled off considerably. Penn State is now no longer getting a top choice coach.ytownfootball;992039 wrote:PSU may be forced to tread water until the shitstorm settles down, hiring someone from within or a lesser candidate.

There is always risk involved in something like this. UCLA would be a fairly impressive jump in talent, but also consider that with recent sanctions to USC the recruiting pipeline in Southern California isn't completely locked up. Petersen showing up would surely make an impact on the decisions of recruits in the area, not to mention he would be the best coach in the Pac 12 depending on your view of Chip Kelly. That won't automatically translate to performance on the field, but I'd be willing to bet Petersen could turn that program around quick. Also didn't he grow up in California?jordo212000;992022 wrote:Yeah but if he takes that job and doesn't win there it will be the last $3 million contract he gets. You are thinking too short-sighted.

I think UCLA's cupboard compared to others in the PAC-12, especially on the other end of town in LA is pretty bare... If he took it I think it would be a while to bring the Bruins back to national prominence... And, like others have said, if he fails its the last big contract he'll ever get

I would think he has more confidence in his abilities than perhaps you do in your own.jordo212000;992022 wrote:Yeah but if he takes that job and doesn't win there it will be the last $3 million contract he gets. You are thinking too short-sighted.

Never been there but by all accounts Boise is a wonderful place to live and he is the king. He would always be 2nd fiddle at UCLA. Doubling his yearly salary? Not when you factor in COL expenses. 500k buys a ton of house in Boise...not so much in So Cal. Plus the smog and traffic. I don't think UCLA is a destination job.bradmaynard;991977 wrote:Doubling his yearly salary and moving him from Idaho to California? That would be hard to pass up.

Maybe? Or he could be thinking realistically? Nobody has been able to win at UCLA consistently.Tobias Fünke;995159 wrote:I would think he has more confidence in his abilities than perhaps you do in your own.

Terry Donahue did put together a 144–81–8 record over 20 seasons with them. Granted, that's only 7-4 on average, but he took them to four Rose Bowls.

Yeah Donahue was the man at UCLA.
It's not like Boise State has been a football mecca before Peterson was on the staff. Besides, the talent pool in southern California is about 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000x better than being in Boise State's position currently of picking up the under the radar cats.

You're right It IS a wonderful place to live, and believe me, people are moving to Idaho all the time from California. In many respects, some consider it a step up.TBone14;995221 wrote:Never been there but by all accounts Boise is a wonderful place to live and he is the king. He would always be 2nd fiddle at UCLA.
