I agree that Luke staying on as DC is important in keeping the Buckeye Family in unity. Luke took a lot of hits for Buckeye Nation and should get to hoist the NC trophy with Urban in a year or two. That would be fitting.

Assistant? Yes. Defensive Coordinator? No.

I think he deserves to head coach the bowl game if they are allowed to go to one. (Let Urban hit the recruiting trail).
I hope that he is asked to be a line coach and assistant HC and accepts the offer. I think that Vrbel will be kept also.

Fickell looks pretty happy here. Maybe a little relieved.

Sorry pal, but defense was GREAT under Dantonio. His 2002 defense won OSU the national title. If OSU hadn't landed Meyer, my #2 choice was Dantonio. That guy never sat back on defense. Always was getting after it, and making adjustments.krambman;990140 wrote:Agreed. The defense was good under Dantonio and Snyder, but it became great (statistically) under Heacock and there was no real measurable improvement when Fickell was made co-coordinator. Really what it did was allowed Heacock to move into the box because Fickell could be down on the field.

Agreed, and MSU's defense proved that this year too as he has got his players and system fully in place. Look at who they are ranked behind.centralbucksfan;991439 wrote:Sorry pal, but defense was GREAT under Dantonio. His 2002 defense won OSU the national title. I am curious to see how they take care of Fickell. I know that he was in over his head, but he was loyal to the program and I hope they make things right with him.

His offer was a spot on the staff at his current ~ 750k salary. He will also be the HC in the bowl game.FatHobbit;991567 wrote:I am curious to see how they take care of Fickell. I know that he was in over his head, but he was loyal to the program and I hope they make things right with him.

If he wants it, that seems really fair to me. What do we typically pay our assistants?OneBuckeye;991571 wrote:His offer was a spot on the staff at his current ~ 750k salary. He will also be the HC in the bowl game.

Not that much. With Urban we will have the most expensive staff in the country though.FatHobbit;991578 wrote:If he wants it, that seems really fair to me. What do we typically pay our assistants?

If we win some Nat'l Championships it's all worth it.

Yeah, look at MSU's SOS as well. It was way WAY behind Bama and LSU's.OneBuckeye;991442 wrote:Agreed, and MSU's defense proved that this year too as he has got his players and system fully in place. Look at who they are ranked behind.
