After all the turmoil this season, maybe they should turn down all bowl bids. Just a thought.

That situation is completely beyond the NCAA's jurisdiction. Penn State could sue to block any NCAA penalty and win. The entire situation is awful and the people involved in hiding it are all bad at life, but they broke the actual law, not NCAA law. Everyone who can do time should get the maximum. But this isn't NCAA territory. This is criminal territory.
What happened at Penn State shouldn't impact Ohio State, Miami, Oregon or anyone else under investigation for NCAA rules violations. This goes beyond sports to the lowest form of human existence. The NCAA should stay out.

A coverup of ANYTHING by an athletic department = NCAA's BIG ONE, Lack of Institutional Control. This undoubtedly will be the most severe case in NCAA history.

I can't understand why people think OSU should turn down a bowl bid. If they don't receive a bowl ban, you take the bowl bid. Gives the players an extra game and OSU some national exposure.

The NCAA needs to stay the hell out of the way and let the law handle this. This is not an NCAA issue and for them to attempt to make it one is simply grandstanding. There's a lot of young players that could use those extra 15 practices as a stepping stone to 2012.
Play the bowl game if you're selected (which I can't see any bowl not wanting OSU)

I agree that you play it, but since Fickell will be gone afterward the practices won't help nearly as much as they normally would.

Oh, please! please please! Can we? can we please?. It's not even an issue of the NCAA overstepping it's authority. Member institutions have given it way too much authority in much the same way that government has grown on the national level. And of course, there has been a BIG payout...to everyone but the players who have to suffer the penalties.

Unless OSU has had a post-season ban put on them, they should play in whatever bowl game they get. Turning down a bowl invite costs the university (and the conference) money, hurts recruiting, and robs a team that can really use it an extra month of practice. I can't imagine one positive thing coming from turning down a bowl bid.

Obviously, Miami thinks this will help them with the NCAA, I say the NCAA will see right through this ploy. Let's take care of bidness this week first. If they win def go bowling...if not I can see taking a breather getting the ink dried on Urbies contract and start the recruiting hard and fast early.

It will be interesting to see how selection process goes for Big Ten teams. If PSU doesn't win the conference, I can see many of the bowls passing over them in the selection process because they won't want to deal with the PSU issue for a month.

im pretty sure the ncaa has rules stateing schools must follow a certain moral code which would allow them to go after psu

If they think they will get a postseason ban, they should do it. But if they are confident it won't be that severe, then there's no need. Someone at OSU has to have an idea of what will be handed down.

If they're going to get a post season ban, why would you ban yourself from post season? Either way, you're going to be banned. It's not like the NCAA has proven to be more merciful towards programs that self impose penalties.
