Agreed. But increasingly the problem is clearly entrenched power brokers like Pelosi and Reid. Look at how bad things were in NV and yet Reid STILL got re-elected. CA's economy and budget is a mess, yet those clowns keep voting for more of the same for our country?!? Is there really any hope for this country when we continue to re-elect people that clearly have no answers?believer;989750 wrote:I said Obama-lite. No. And that would be our fault.gut;989818 wrote:Agreed. But increasingly the problem is clearly entrenched power brokers like Pelosi and Reid. True. Plus, the way the media has gone from 4th Estate to tabloid and liberal mouthpiece I think better candidates are very turned-off by public service. Takes a special brand of ego to run for Congress, plus narcissism for POTUS (the current one lacking in neither).believer;990878 wrote:No. And that would be our fault.

Show me when it was the 4th Estate and I'll show you when the media didn't exist.gut;990979 wrote:True. The media has never been and will never be some shining objective presenter of verified facts. And it can't be. Because no matter how many peer reviewed scientists or factual evidence you bring in to talk about something conservatives will disagree and show you their own evidence (this works the same way with liberals so calm down).

I disagree that the media hasn't become far more biased. Not saying it never wasn't biased, but that was mostly confined to actual opinion pieces. When they reported the news, they presented objective facts on both sides. Such articles are fewer and harder to find, devolving to putting a spin on the news by sensationalizing, distorting, and ignoring counter points to the perception they're trying to create. That papers even have Opinion sections any more is almost intellectually dishonest, suggesting the rest of the paper is objective and neutral which isn't remotely close to the truth.I Wear Pants;991806 wrote:Show me when it was the 4th Estate and I'll show you when the media didn't exist.

I know you are in college, and you likely never studied the 4th Estate in its glory, but look up how Woodward and Bernstein uncovered the Watergate scandal and brought down an out-of-control President who felt laws didn't apply to him and was free to do as he pleases. Hmmmm....sound familiar in 2011?????? But no 4th Estate to be found today. They're too busy getting tingly about a speech reader.

They're also too busy mapping out "strategery" to disparage, smear, defame, ridicule, and lambaste the latest Republican front-runner....whoever that may be, while continuing their policy of granting the Chosen One a free pass.BGFalcons82;992145 wrote:But no 4th Estate to be found today. "In New Jersey, the reason why they got done is because I called people into the room and said we’re going to solve this problem and I had people of good will on the other side who said they believed it was their obligation, regardless of party, to get done things like pension and benefit reform,”
The leader of the opposing party in the Senate publicly stated with a straight face that their number one goal is to ensure that President Obama is a one term president. Rather than good will, Obama is faced with deliberate bad faith. Obama's proposed bill on deficit reduction is more conservative than the average republican voter...more conservative than deficit deals agreed to by Ronald Reagan and yet he cannot get any cooperation from Republicans.
