Does Dover have transfers yaer in & year out? There are many ohio schools getting talent from neighboring states. I doubt this is the case at Dover. Just curious where their kids come from.

Is that going to Divers excuse again when they lose another regional championship? How's come teams like Coldwater have state titles with homegrown talent, going up against powerhouses like Mooney and Dover doesn't even have a regional championship?

By homegrown, do you mean born and raised in the community, or born in a nearby town or state, then transferring or moving to the new school district after 8th grade or after the 9th grade? Just trying to get clarification on what "homegrown" means.

Again I'll ask, why can schools like Coldwater win state titles with homegrown talent against the likes of mooney while Dover can't win regional championships.

It seems the excuse is always we may not win like Big Red (3 time state champs, ? Regional champs, 3rd in all time wins in Ohio) but at least we play with our own kids and not a bunch of transfers. But that shouldn't be an acceptable excuse if other schools are winning titles with their hometown kids. Why is it being used as an excuse.

Now if you have no answer and just wanna talk about transfers okay. Big Red has a few transfers almost constantly. Not illegal. But if you have an issue with it that's within your rights obviously. I just never heard Coldwater fans crying about it. They just went out and won regional and state championships. Maybe schools like Dover and Creek should look at schools like that instead of pointing fingers at others as to why you can't have success. Win something for pete's sake. No more excuses.

Im excited to play Mooney, we haven't lost to them in the regional finals yet, a new team to lose to. :rolleyes:

As far as open enrollment.

Dover is surrounded by proud communities. Playing for New Philadelphia might not mean something to you, but to those kids it does. Same with Claymont, Indian Valley, Garaway, Strasburg. People here know there is more to life than uprooting their families so their kid can play for Dover(playing the part of Big Red in this scenario). In these communities the name on the shirt is more than just a sport.

You can say that because there isn't a powerhouse football program to take them. If Steubenville was in that area I'd be willing to bet a few of those NP, Claymont, etc stars might be thinking of joining a team that has the 3rd most wins, and just won a cpl state championships.

If Mooney was right there do you think no one from NP or Dover or etc would be tempted to play for them?

Big Red - we win with our own players, players from surrounding towns and players from surrounding states. And when we lose, it's because the other school recruits, the refs made bad calls, the other team was lucky, the concession stand didn't sell peppereno rolls...

I am ahab, no matter how much you try to insult DOver we are proud of what OUR kids have done hats off to Coldwater they have gotten it done but we will remain proud of what OUR kids have done.

Bottom line, when Im in Steubenville, I can't wait to get out...houses on the side of hills, looks like a 3rd world country. I just bought my second house in Dover, its a great town, with a great school, and no matter what year it is, the teams on the football field and hardwood will keep us entertained.

You can have your couple of state championships. I'll take consistently being good with the chance to win championships with kids who grew up in Dover and are anxious to be part of the journey not a spare part picked off the street to help maintain a facade. You are sticking your feather in a hat thats getting old and dusty. Two years in a row that Dover is still playing and you aren't. I would pile on too.

No worries, just thought I'd point it out considering no one had mentioned that these two teams have met before in the playoffs, even though it was over 30 years ago. Mooney went on to win the D2 State Championship that year.

That was the only previous meeting between Mooney and Dover.

State Championships from 5 years ago are the only thing that matter, duh. Its called deflecting, Ahab is deflecting the fact that his team has run its mouth for two years without getting out of the first two weeks of the playoffs. I actually had heard of that meeting, didn't realize it was in the playoffs though. I have no beef with Mooney and am looking forward to the game. Once the Big Redders start jumping into the mighty Ohio River and taking deep breathes we will be able to talk about the game in our thread.

Well I was going to go and cheer for Dover this week since they are about 10 miles closer to Steubenville than Y-town is, and they are included in the local news coverage..... But the more I read your posts the more likely I am to change my mind..... haha

Really, good luck to both teams. Just like every year I hope the Champs come out of our region.
