Says the dude with a web forum who designs websites for money and who just said "I bought a dual core AMD processor that I was able to unlock into a quad core". :)

[Thread hi-jack]

I am looking to build a gaming desktop. Any suggestions?

http://www.newegg.com/Store/MasterComboStore.aspx?StoreID=7&name=DIY-PC-Combos&cm_sp=Pillar2-_-BuildYourOwn-_-http%3a%2f%2fpromotions.newegg.com%2fhomepage%2fpillar%2fhomepage2011%2fbnr_lifestyle_combo.jpg

New Eggs bundles are above. I'm not sure what processor / graphics card/ how much RAM etc I should be getting. I want to get the best build for my $. I'd like to keep it all under 700.

Go with AMD for the processor and get at least 8 gee bees. I know nothing about video cards.

Again. I don't design websites. I'm handed a design by one of our designers and I build it.

That would only serve to reinforce my point as building the back end of a website is far more dorkish than design.

Why do you make it live such a sad and purposeless life?

i'm working a 14/14 rotation and my days off are filled with gymnastics and arts and crafts. very little time for pc gaming. i have burnt many a blu-ray on it. and edit/ created numerous HD home movies. it gets its use. i just never got around to gaming. the sad thing is i really wanted to get into it. that's why i bought this machine but like i said it just wasn't in the cards.

Do I just need a normal blu-ray drive? I don't need a blu-ray burner, do I?

I drop $200-300 into mine every 8-12 months. It's usually enough to buy the best "bang for the buck" mobo/CPU.

I recently went from 8GB to 16GB just because RAM is fucking cheap.
