Was this ever a legitimate claim or just something the media blew this way out of proportion after a Florida team full of track athletes happened to blow out OSU in the NC game. What about the other SEC teams? Cant think of any other SEC teams who might have speed "advantages" other than Florida.
Just other SEC fans riding the coat tails of another conference team's success.

The term "SEC Speed" has been and always will be a myth. There are fast guys everywhere.

It's a load of crap. tOSU would have beaten Florida in a track meet the year they met for the NC.
Unfortunately, they played football instead.

You guys always look at this from the wrong angle.
First, team speed is not quantified by the fastest guy on your team (ie. your WR's, DB's, RBs). What people are talking about is the speed and athleticism of the offensive linemen, defensive linemen and linebackers.
Second, you guys always want to compare OSU with the SEC squads. OSU is one of the few teams in the Big Ten that has this speed because they have similar quality of athletes. You have to factor the Buckeyes out when you scoff at the notion of the SEC speed. However, most of the rest of the B10 except for perhaps Michigan and Michigan State do not have the same depth of athletes that teams in the SEC or ACC (Clemson, FSU and Florida) for that matter.

Theo Riddick was the New Jersey 100m champion.Tiernan;955121 wrote:I agree...everywhere except NW Indiana.
I believe George Atkinson was the California 100m champion.
Ronald Darby is a world-class 200m runner, he actually has a junior world record in track. He also ran the fastest 40m at the junior Under Armour combins, .08 faster than anyone else (4.31 to 4.39+)

Maybe I was referring to Valpo State Ernie...if I'd been alluding to South Bend that would be considered "trolling" by the gang of mods that are sworn to protect all things Holy of ND.

I just think there are fast guys everywhere at every position. Now, the Big Ten's traditional smashmouth style isn't even comparable. It's slower. Teams like Michigan State are slow. There's nod debating that.Little Danny;955135 wrote:You guys always look at this from the wrong angle.

But the teams at the top of the recruiting lists everywhere are pretty damn fast and athletic and I don't think that the SEC has an advantage there.

I think the team speed issue is evident from the teams in the middle to back of the conference in the SEC. Look at the athletes on TN, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Ole Miss and compare them with bottom third of the B10.Tobias Fünke;955153 wrote:I just think there are fast guys everywhere at every position. I dont even know if I buy that. Alabama and LSU havent been successful lately with smaller, faster lineman.Little Danny;955135 wrote:You guys always look at this from the wrong angle.

ND is the only school on here where you have to make positive statements about, otherwise its considered trolling.

If that was the case Grambling, Southern and Howard would be unstoppable. Central State or Wilberforce would have the best football team in Ohio.sleeper;955245 wrote:I'll say it if no one else will..

I would think that teams are built differently depending on where you and who you play, so I wouldn't be surprised if southern teams value speed more as an attibute in their recruiting. Whether they are or not I don't know, but I think it is plausible.

I agree 100%. And its not all SEC teams that get the speedy players that are studs. Usually the top teams have more speedy players from top to bottom and have faster linemen. As for LSU, there defensive players are huge.....but fast. If you listen to any games, they always comment on how you cant run to the outside on LSU because their defensive ends run 4.5's and even one of their big linemen runs like a 4.8. You dont see many teams like that. Oregon has speed, but lack the size. Bama and LSU among others have both. OSU has speed in certain positions...but of course they get alot of good recruits. You cant say that about alot of B1G teams.Little Danny;955135 wrote:You guys always look at this from the wrong angle.
