The Ohio Cardinal Conference recently released its all-league football selections, with a trio of area players picking up Player of the Year Awards.
Second-place Orrville led the way with the OCC Defensive Player of the Year in senior Mason Monheim, while classmate Drew Brenner was named the OCC Special Team POY.
League champion Ashland boasted Coach of the Year Scott Valentine, and Arrows wide receiver Marquise Jones shared Offensive POY honors with Wooster senior quarterback Devin Daugherty.
Locally, Orrville had five players make the All-OCC first team in seniors Stewart Turner Jr., Dylan Lemon, Trevor White and Ronnie Lehtomaki, and sophomore Trevor Summers.
Devonta Anderson (Sr.) was Wooster's lone first-team All-OCC pick, while West Holmes put seniors Joey Gonzalez and Dustin Shaffer on the first team along with junior Keaton Leppla.
Rounding out the OCC first team was Mansfield Senior's Terrell Harris, Clear Fork's Cole Pollard, Logan Dernbach and Brandon Fields; Lexington's Andrew Hunter, Brandon Henderson and Johnny Webster; Madison's Taj Coffee, Riyad Black, Alek Lampert and Cody Thompson; and Ashland's Zach Bernhard, Greg Gallaway, Steve Mowry, Willie Moore, Seth Shakely and Adam Wolbert.
Area players named All-OCC second team included Orrville's Lareece Woods (Sr.), Zane Vierheller (Jr.) Cody Weaver (Sr.), Alex Samson (Sr.) and Nick Graber (Jr.); West Holmes juniors Garrett Mackey and Brock Macaulay and sophomore Brady Arnold; and Wooster junior Grant Stokes.
Honorable mention picks for the Generals included Keegan Bess, Brenner Lewis and Darrian Owens, along with West Holmes' Layne Perone, Grant Hay and Tyler Butler, and Orrville's Dakota Herrington, Kyle Lichti and BJ Johnson.
Ashland won the OCC with a 6-1 record, followed by Orrville (5-2), Madison (4-3), West Holmes, Lexington and Clear Fork all at 3-4, and Wooster and Mansfield Senior at 2-5.
