I used to believe and go to mass/service every Sunday. Then i just lost faith. I'd see people all around proclaiming that the Lord spoke to them and gave them direction, but I never felt that and although I believed God had done some specific wonders for me personally I felt He wasn't involved as much I needed Him to be. At least not to the extent of others who claimed that they spoke regularly. So, I lost faith.

I still read about Christianity and last night while I was running my nightly miles I was listening to a book called 'Aquinas For Armchair Theologians'. So, I decided to, as I do from time to time, offer up a prayer and ask God if he'd come into my heart and make himself known to me again, as he was only a few years prior.

And right when I had said 'God, if you're up there, please come down and be real to me', all of a sudden two birds, maybe doves or pigeons (it was very dark 9pm) fluttered and flew out of a shrub about a foot to my left and scared the living shit out me. I screamed and ran to the other side of the street. Now, it's stuff like that which confuses the hell out of me. Am I supposed to take that as a sign or is it just coincidence????

Absolutely. I heard it put this way once, and it helps me when I struggle.

That's a terrible reason to believe in anything.

I do believe in a higher power. I believe in the God of the Bible.

LOL...one night a few years ago I was laying in bed saying the exact same thing..."God, if you're there...show me something!" All of the sudden the whole bedroom lit up with bright light. Now, it took me about 15 seconds to figure out that it was the headlights of a car out front that caused this...but, I was scared to death for those 15 seconds. I don't think this incident was coincidental.

I can't believe that I am on this earth, a living human being, by dumb chance. There has to be more to it. The God of the Bible just makes sense to me.

What's the difference if you find out he's real and did or didn't believe?

It's stories like this that make me laugh. Ask God to make it rain beer and it never happens, and you can take that to the bank.

Yeah me too. I don't understand why God has to be all mythical with this faith bullshit. Why not do some real miracles and convince the masses so that people can be saved? Seems like God is an egotistical jackass to me and if he exists I can't wait to meet him, I'd humble him guaranteed.

Serious question for those who answered yes. (I didn't answer because I don't have one)

Anyway, as we all know the earth will not be around forever, (while it may be a long time from now), the sun will eventually die, which will kill off the human race (I feel really bad for the people who are going to experience that). So what will god do then?

Sure don't. People who divulge themselves in religion seem like they are trying to cope with something they can't fathom: dying alone

Do you think God takes advantage of human technology up in heaven? Like, does he play Xbox? I wonder if he limits his powers to human capabilities from century to century haha ... of maybe he has some SWEET machine that is so beyond comprehension, he can only unleash the awesome after we kick the bucket.
