Spread I couldn't have said it better myself. How in the Hell could you crown a state championship after a passing scrimmage! Funniest stuff I have heard since 1994! The ignorance of some people truly amazes me!

I know the post you may be referring to. It was in the D-5 state title contenders thread a few months back. Someone had posted either Ursuline or Campbell would win the state championship in D-5. When I saw the post I immediately made the statement that Campbell was nowhere near being a state contender even with all of the talent they had. I made mention of the leadership concerns I had with the team and wondered if Campbell could even win the AAC-Blue. They shared that title with Girard thanks to a week 8 victory over the Indians. Then after beating Newton Falls in a really ugly game in week 9, it looked to me as if Campbell took Struthers lightly and got their collective clocks cleaned by a Struthers team that had played a much tougher schedule than Campbell had. That loss costed Campbell a home game in week 11 and a third straight trip to the playoffs. But to be honest, I was not surprised with the end result. Senior leadership and good team players make a huge difference in the success or lack thereof a team. Campbell had great talent. But Campbell had no leaders. Campbell had a few kids who were less than ideal teammates. It caught up to them in the end. With no leaders, this team did not handle adversity well enough. And there was plenty of it, on and off the field. Maybe the seniors to be in 2012 will take the shortcomings of the 2011 season as a lesson learned. They have to. If they don't we could see more failures ahead.

Hopefully the person who made that post about Campbell winning state has learned his lesson and will not make any similar predictions for the 2012 season. I mentioned that some Campbell fans wear their pride on their sleeves and have been known to make a bold prediction without knowing about everything that is happening or could happen down the line during the season. Some of these fans do not live in the Youngstown area and are following Campbell from afar. They only can go by what is being said to them, what is written in the papers and what is mentioned on tv. I knew the facts. I knew what the red flags would be as soon as adversity set in. All Campbell fans want to see the Devils win a state championship in football. The talent level is good. But senior leadership, the work ethic in the offseason, and keeping the grades up in the classroom has to get better before a deeper run in the playoffs can be expected. From what I understand had Campbell made it to week 12 there would have been at least 4 key players ruled ineligible due to poor grades. And believe me, these kids who would have been ruled ineligible are not taking the most difficult classes available. I have been told that some of them just do not care.

There are some holes to fill in 2012. But Campbell returns a good nucleus. They will have good size and good athletes. The schedule will be a bit tougher. Starting with the offseason conditioning program, some leaders need to emerge.

99.99% are gone. Now that the 'leaders' are gone the 2 sheep will have nobody to follow.

Same here, but I'm confident that they are. There's only 2, maybe 3 that concern me, but I feel the seniors will actually be seniors and be the leaders and the locker room police they should be. Coaches sguld rarely need to deal with things like they did last season, good senior leaders deal with distractions and keep order in the locker room.

I love it!

My Dad always told me and my brother, that when a coach yells at you... don't listen to the yelling. Listen to the message. Don't take anything personal. Coaches yell at everyone...

The coach yells too much, so I quit... lol.

oldschool, I remember your senior year playing football. I believe it was 1991. Campbell fielded a roster of just 26 players that season. We won the MVC and made the playoffs. Rozum would not tolerate kids who were not committed. Can you imagine coaches Minnie and Rozum coaching these days? All Minnie did was yell. But he got his point across. The kids had a certain fear of the coaches in those days, along with respect. Rozum's rosters were smaller in those days. But the kids on the roster were all committed to the success of the program. All I can say is I hope Coach Sikora will not give any knuckleheads second chances next season. You can bet there will be at least two knuckleheads provided they are eligible.

Just heard from several reputable sources, and even some players that plans are underway to begin the installation of FIELD TURF at John Knapick Field!!!!

They all said it will be done for the start of next season.

Also, tomorrow (sunday) is the annual Gridiron Club Spaghetti Dinner. Starts at noon I believe, at the E&M

I don't have any confirmation. But I do know who got the ball rolling on this. Maybe we'll get confirmation at the dinner today.

Doubt they will. That would be 'too evil'.

Well be lucky to even have any logos on it at all. Everything's always done cheap as hell.

I respectfully disagree. If indeed field turf is going to be installed I would be very surprised if there is no logo at midfield or in each of the end zones.

Not the schools. Campbell has beautiful schools and a beautiful stadium. Granted the stadium should have some evidence showcasing the history of the football program. We could see the first step in that process sometime next year. The city simply has never recovered from the loss of the steel mills, which gave Campbell so much revenue. Campbell needs sources of revenue or it may well never recover. It's a land locked city whose major source of revenues were the mills built along the river. I always wish nothing but the best for my alma mater and my hometown. Just my opinion.

I vote for the Old School Devil but as said before its to evil for now a days to be put on the turf. Or how about the old school Rozum pitchfork with the word DEVILS running through it. Not the boring CM ... Or the M. I miss the old school logos. Especially the helmets.

I would be in favor of putting Memorial or Campbell in the end zones with a big M at the 50 yard line. That would be good enough for me.
