He could very well, because I don't think he improves stock by returning. I think he's basically reached his potential and doesn't have much to gain by returning.

I worry about his size. Plus I question his athleticism. He actually reminds me a lot of Gholsten. He's successful at the college level because he's just stronger than everyone else. Not sure if that's the case in the NFL.

He is not the best in the country. Have you watched the DT in the SEC? I feel like that's the biggest difference from the SEC and everyone else, they have monsters at DT.

I think with Gholston his problems were more mental in that I don't think his heart was ever truly into being a star NFL player. I heard him speak a few times and he always seemed to be very quiet and relaxed, and just not aggressive enough for the NFL. Just don't think his personality allowed him to play in the NFL if that makes any sense.

The idea of John Simon being a top 5 pick is dumb, dumbass.

Simon is too small to play DT in the NFL but could play DE or maybe even convert to LB but you have to question his speed for that move. He won't be a top 10 pick probably not even a first round pick if he comes out this year. Probably a second rounder because of his lack of size (height as well as weight) a great player at the college level.

I think the failed switch to LB really killed any chances he had. The fact that he came into the league and failed so quickly seems like it made him just go "eh fuck it"

He is 6'2 270, like I said earlier, he will play 3 technique in the NFL. Add 10 lbs and he is good to go.

I think Simon is better all around player than Gholsten was. Simon is as good against the run, as he is against the pass. Simon made a play in the flat against Illinois, that you don't really expect out of a DE. He dropped and covered the TE coming across the field, the got out to the flat on the pass and stopped the play for minimal game. Very impressive from a DE.

think Cam Heyward. Simon is just a bit smaller and just a bit stronger than Heyward. He plays inside and outside on the line just like Heyward did. He fits the 3 technique perfectly....

Or does no one understand what I am talking about? 3 technique is a 3-4 DE

3 tech is typically lined up on an offensive guards outside shoulder. In a 4-3 your DTs play a 3 and a 1 (or 0 depending on your team). In a 3-4 the Nose is in a 0 or 1 on the C and the DEs play 4 or 5 on a OT.

Your terminology is off...but it may be what you know as all teams use differing terminology. I have never heard of a professional team reference a 3-4 DE as a 3 tech.

Most commonly the numbering goes like this:

0 = head up on C
1 = shoulder of C
2 = head up on G
3 = outside shoulder of G
4 = head up on T
5 = outside shoulder of T

Numbering for inside shoulder and alignment on TE vary greatly by team.

Bear Bryant is one of the biggest known coaches credited for numbering the D-Line and he used the above system along with:

2i = inside shoulder of G
4i = inside shoulder of T
6 = head up on TE
7 = inside shoulder of TE
9 = shoulder of TE

No one can really explain the TE numbering that I have ever heard.

The Buckeye D-Lineman with the greatest likelihood of being a first rounder is Big Hank, imo.

It's because in HS we played a 3-4 with a stand up LB who played the 4 and 5 and a DE who played the 3, which the Steelers (the only 3-4 team I pay attention to) will do as well.

It's honestly about different lineups, not being right or wrong

He's too slow for DE.

I think Simon is a HELLUVA college ball player, but his size and speed just do not translate over very well to the next level. He's too small to be a NFL DT and he's too slow to be a NFL DE.
