Rumored to be switching to LB on the scout forums from insiders...

Thoughts?

Ehh I'm skeptical. Has he played LB before?

His brother is highly recruited linebacker in high school.

Yes, standout lb and rb in highschool...

If little smith comes to osu, would be cool to have brothers playing defense together.

We heard the same thing about Hyde during the offeseason, too. We'll see.

You can definitely see the potential he has as a RB. I just think he's a little short on confidence and the mental toughness aspect that comes with the position right now.

The scout premium boards said the staff changed the way he carries the ball and that's what is the difference in Smith from last year to this year...

Would be absolutely shocked if he moved to LB.

I think someone is going to have to move positions eventually (or transfer), with Dunn and Ball coming in next year, Hall still having a year left, and Berry lurking somewhere in the background.

See the potential? Where are you getting that from? I know he was highly regarded out of HS, but I haven't seen much from him.

It doesn't matter. He might be there this year, but Bollman, Siciliano, and Fickell are all going to be freshening up their resumes after the season. Unlikely he moves IMO and if he does, the new regime will probably shift him back.

Depth right now at RB and anemic at LB. Makes sense, but dunno if that transition can be made in-season?

When Storm Klein is one of your better LBs, you are in big trouble. Dude is one of the worst starting LBs I can remember. So slow and is such a poor tackler.

This. This. This.

No clue how he starts for OSU. And the thing is, people were so high on the hiring of Vrabel. Vrabel hasn't made a difference and an offensive coach was much more needed.

I have no clue why Ryan Shazier doesn't get more PT. The season is over and he is a playmaker. Give him Klein's spot. At the very worst, he'll miss the same amount of tackles in the flats as Klein does

It's simple. No depth at LB, depth at RB. Just trying to see the field.

From what I have seen out of Shazier, looks like he will/could be a stud. Seems like he makes just about every special teams tackle or pretty close to it...he has some speed too.

Vrabel isn't going to make Klein more athletic...

unfortunately, there was an opening for a linebackers coach, not an offensive coach

Fickell didn't have the authority to hire a new O-coordinator. Remember.....Fickell was only supposed to the Head Coach for FIVE DAYS.

Interesting change. To be honest he just ran over people in high school, his running didn't overly impress me and that was evident by his play early in the season. If he is smart, he can be a very good linebacker and has great size for it too.

Unfortunately I see a kid like Brionte Dunn being the same exact player. I really hope we can get Keith Byers II in 2012 he has vision and quickness we need at RB.

I called Storm Klein being a bust from day one took it up the ass from every Blind Buckeye supporter on the OC. He was a good country boy league football player and should be playing in the MAC somewhere. Smith's speed alone gives him an advantage over "Partly Cloudy" Klein.
