Disagree. I believe Auburn had nothing to do with the Cam Newton deal. I believe his dad thought he was going to cash in and Mississippi State told him to go to hell and he realized he was in over his head so he didn't bother asking anyone else for money.SportsAndLady;931845 wrote:Agree or disagree with this statement:

The circumstantial evidence is overwhelming. There's no plausible reason to believe a Cam Newton who cried on the phone to MSU's coach that he had to go to Auburn because the money was just too good, with the evidence that MSU's boosters were aware of the price for his services, that 1+1 does not equal 2.superman;931945 wrote:Its common sense.

Where did you get #2? My understanding (could be wrong) was that they couldn't get any money out of MSU because MSU was going to the NCAA about the solicitation.superman;931945 wrote:Its common sense.

Either way, here's why his dad would talk him into going to Auburn: his dad knew that he'd screwed up the MSU thing. He knew he was going to be turned in and that it would mean Cam's college career was over. At that point, there was no guarantee Cam would even get a look at the pros, let alone be in the NFL. The only shot he had at playing somewhere was by going somewhere other than MSU after his dad botched it.

Honest question - I've heard of this tape where Cam supposedly made those comments. The biggest smoking gun for me is the fact that Cecil Newtons church was on the verge of being demolished. Suddenly, coinciding with Cam Newtons signing at Auburn, Cecil Newton began renovations on his church to avoid demolition. Coincidence, sure! :rolleyes:

Yes, because no church ever receives donations from its members. The church's financial records were provided to the NCAA. I will admit that I am more skeptical about other supposed NCAA violations (including the possibility that someone paid Holmes. I think the reason many fans are so outraged with this is because the nature of the potential violations. Cheating in recruiting is a lot worse than the typical stuff that happens at all major programs to on campus athletes such as discounts, special treatment, etc. This strikes right to the heart of competitive advantage.
Obviously the NCAA is pretty weak when it comes to nailing guilty programs. The main difference between this and the OSU situation is that OSU lost control when the federal investigation broke and had no choice but to cooperate. The info was out there, so they had to deal with it and the NCAA. From the people I have talked to ALL coaches handle NCAA violations in house, you just hope that a federal investigation doesn’t get you busted haha.

The question I have for those upset by this is what is the NCAA's motivation to protect Auburn?
As others have inidcated, being innocent and not being able to prove wrong doing are two separate things.

When the choice comes down to corruption or incompetence, I'll almost always bet on the latter. Had Ohio State not bent over backward to serially confess, they would not be in the situation they're in. The lesson to be learned is when the NCAA comes to town, whip a little perjury on them, and send their bitch asses back to Indy.
