That's part of the problem. There were so many on here who criticized the schools because of how their programs were ran and the problems they had. People thought OSU was above that. Now that OSU is in the spotlight, everyone is doing it. It just sounds so childish. I personally have known enough players over the years and saw the cars they drove and the apartments they lived in. It just never added up.

I love the irony in this statement.

No one forces an athlete to go to college. They can sit it out and enter the draft if they wish. If they want to go to OSU they get everything handed to them and are treated like gods....yeah, I feel very sorry for them.

Posey can or cannot come back to the team. My guess is if he's done we'll be paying welfare stamps in Cincinnati for his family, because he certainly isn't ready for the NFL.

Is that an arguement that changes any of the facts? Of course, because it affects the Buckeyes it gets talked about. This is primarily an OHIO board. It's called OHIO CHATTER.

Several years ago, I posted on JJ about the 'clearinghouse' when my kids were aspiring college athletes...it got about 3 replies. So whatever it takes.
So what if it is the Buckeyes...open your eyes. I'd say it probably doesn't matter that much to most college football fans anyway...just as long as they get good product for their Saturday afternoon fix.

+1. I've always hated when people say that athletes don't get enough for the millions the school makes. Going to college on a full ride scholarship is a luxury. Alot of kids would kill to be able to attend OSU and be virtually debt free four years later. They know what they signed up for, and they should follow the rules accordingly and quit whining about not getting enough from the school.

We will have to agree to disagree on "facts"...I think the NCAA is doing the best they can with what they have. There are clearly MANY schools who are breaking the rules and unless they have something obviously happen, the NCAA can't do anything about it. Once they find out about a violation, they have to investigate it and it seems they have been doing that. The only thing that I feel could have been done better was the Cam Newton investigation...but unless they can prove Cam or Auburn did anything wrong...they can't punish them.



I just think it is a joke to have no problem with a system until it affects you in a way you dont like.

I think that rather than crying about the system OSU should clean house. Kick these kids off the team. Start suspending kids for anything done wrong. Skip a class...miss a game. Break curfew...miss a game. Violate an NCAA rule...lose your scholarship. Then make a point to publicly show you are looking deeply into the backgrounds of your recruits. Recruit only kids with solid moral character.

People may think you can't win that way...but it has worked for Stanford.

Any decision to boot Posey, Herron...etc. from the team you can be sure has been completely removed from Fickell's hands at this point. He may still have some input but any axe chopping will be done by committee of Smith, Gee and University Attorneys. Fickell isn't even a lame duck at this point... he's a dead duck.

He's also dropped several passes as well. I know that he had that amazing catch in the opener, but hasn't had very steady hands since then. Maybe they can play Berry at WR some to get him more involved. At this point we have one QB that can't throw, and one whose favorite pass is the throw-away, and our top three receivers are out. Might as well line up in the Wing-T.

Which brings me back to my original point that the NCAA rulebook has become a bloated mess that even the most well intentioned programs violate, and 19 year old kids have trouble complying with.
I don't think I'd have to much problem selling a lot of people here on the idea that the federal government has become a bloated monster over the past few decades.
I submit to you that the NCAA has too. The game has changed since the days of pristine amateur athletics.

That's an arbitrary reward for what they do. For some, it's way more than they deserve. For others, it's not ever close. Are you telling me the Cam Newton was worth no more to Auburn (into perpetuity with memorabelia sales) than the cost of his tuition while he was there? Not even close.

I don't feel sorry for the current players. You play by the rules as they are. And currently the scholarship is what they get. If they don't like that, they can pass on it. What I hate is the lack of a free market whereby the NFL can essentially force kids to take a below market rate. This is not a sustainable system in my opinion. I'm not smart enough to tell you how it will implode, but I think it will. It goes agains the free market value of our society. Perhaps someday there will be minor league football and colleges will get those who actaully want an education first and foremost.
