I like Fickell. Just seems to me OSU wants/needs a big name coach.:confused:

I think you're getting caught up in a fact that besides the point. It's rather irrelevant, imo, whether Urban was worse than Tressel when it came to that stuff. Even if he's just as bad (which again, jmo, is inarguable) I think some Buckeyes fans would rather have a coach who doesn't recruit those thugs.

But in reality, the best players are the thugs. Look at the last 5 national champions. If you want to win, you need to recruit thugs.

I agree to a certain extent, but Tressel didn't shy away from some of the "thugs". One of the main differences might be the academic standards at OSU that limits how many borderline guys each year.

Meyer gets a bad wrap for having thugs IMO. Plus it's laughable for OSU fans to point a finger at anyone when players were hanging out at a tattoo parlor with a drug dealer.

Can you fucking read? I said I realize what Tressel did at OSU. And NO, he doesn't get a bad RAP. It is what it is..he had thugs, guys who had AK47 rifles in their trunks, and he let them back on the team. The Fla arrest record the 6yrs Meyer was there, is very alarming. Next to Tenn, I believe I read where Florida players were second nationally as far as arrest records for big time D1 schools.
And as I said, OSU and the next coach, can not take any chances on shit like this with all the crap that has happened.
Would I take Meyer? Yes I would. He is worth the chance IMO.
An announcer made a comment today while doing an NFL game that he recent talked to Meyer and asked how he was doing not coaching this year. Meyer said he was going crazy...but felt much better physically. I don't see him staying out of coaching too long if the right job comes along.

To be frank, there was no investigation because he wasn't caught. In this day and age, I am of the belief that shit is going on all over. OSU, USC, Oregon, South Caronlina and many others just got caught. Others haven't.
Give me a break on Meyer discipline. You have no proof he disciplined more or less than Tressel.

So if not Meyer, what coach should they go after that is a proven winner and won't recruit thugs? Serious question. I would go after one of Stoops brothers ( Arizona HC and Fla St DC). But outside of them I can't think of anyone that necessarily would be a good get if they pass on Meyer.

Dantonio from MSU. Ohio guy who has coached at OSU. Peterson from Boise. Two off the top of my head without thinking too much. And again, I said I would take Meyer in a heartbeat. Just saying he would have to be careful about who he recruits. But I think with his name and OSU...he wouldn't have too much trouble doing that.

I think if Peterson ever leaves Boise it's for a school on the west coast. I doubt he's ever in the discussion.

So you question the guys that Meyer recruits, but not D'Antonio? Hasn't he had all kinds of problems?

I put it like this. I think Fickell's job will all come down on the Michigan game. Wins he keeps it, lose bring on Urban Meyer lol.

Fickell lost any chance against Miami. They will lose to Wisconsin and Nebraska. An additional 1-2 losses will come from Michigan, Michigan St and Illinois. That's 8-4 or 7-5. No shot to keep it heading into the last week of the season.

1. Please post your proof of his NCAA violations at BG, Utah, or UF.
2. Worthington dui = nothing. Dunlap dui = no SECCG. Meyer kicked more 4* & even 5* guys off the team than most schools even sign.
3. Anybody can be arrested. Happened to me when I was 19. I did nothing wrong, crooked cop arrested me, later the charge was totally dropped. I've seen a girl in jail for dui even though she blew .000 twice at the police station. Zook brought almost half of Meyer's arrested players to UF, but he's in the B1G now so blame Meyer.

Meyer was only as good as his staff. Strong, Mullen, Mattison, and more left and UF had nowhere to go but down. He may or may not have great success if/when/where he coaches again. It will matter who he gets for assistants more than any of you think. It takes more than 1 coach for a BCS Championship.

You could be right. But there are people out there who would forget about the other loses that might come and be ready to crown him like a King if he defeated the school up north.

No question that game can make up for some losses. If nothing else, I'd love to see him beat Michigan just so he can put it on the resume. If OSU can somehow go into that game with just 3 losses, I do think that is a huge game for Fickell.

If that's the case and they head to a good Bowl game with 3 losses he may have a shot to keep his job with an impressive showing in tje Bowl game. But I don't know how realistic that is, and I know I don't want him to stay around because I don't think he's good enough of a coach to be the head man at OSU.

I think the academic standards at Ohio State would limit some of the thugs that would be recruited. Some of the thug players that went to Florida would not be eligible academically to get in to a Big Ten school.

Also, I see a lot of people talking about Peterson from Boise St. as a potential coach they would like to see at OSU. Didn't Boise St. football get probation for NCAA violations? Meyer has never (so far) had a program that received sanctions due to NCAA violations as far as I know. Peterson is no cleaner than Meyer.

Florida is pretty close to OSU in most University rankings.

The violations Boise got were a complete joke. Apparently freshman were living in senior dorms and that is where the improper housing came from. Lemme tell you it's as big of a joke as the violations Michigan got for over-practicing. I swear the NCAA should just be folded with all these stupid rules

That may be true, but aren't the admission standards of the B1G still different (higher) than the SEC? Rankings are one thing, admission standards are entirely different.

In terms of undergraduate education, it really isn't that different. Where the B1G makes their name is in research, which is mostly graduate school.

No clue, but the rankings have been used by many Big Ten fans to support their argument about any academic issues. Every school makes some kind of concession on admittance of athletes.

SEC schools are wayy easier to get into. Don't let them fool you, I have a 2.7 GPA at Owens and got into Alabama and Kentucky, but couldn't make it into MSU or OSU. I'm tellin you that most of the schools down there require you to be a C student to get in
