I wouldn't have thought Urban Meyer because there's no mention of national titles.

I actually agree with Writer. With 1 NC in 3 NC games, OSU fans are definitely title hungry.

Those aren't relevant to OSU.

It doesn't matter who they get..if it's not Urb I will be disappointed. I have never wanted a coach so bad. Miller in that system with Jordan Hall being Rainey/Demps/Harvin? Oh my goodness. He's faster than Tebow. May not be the passer Tebow was but at this point in Tebow's career he was a direct snap fullback. Gotta get Urb.

So if you put those aside, Mason and Meyer are clones.

Ridiculous. They're relevant in every way, but the most important being it shows an ability to recruit top talent, coach it, and win on the biggest stage.

No, not really. Meyer's record was significantly better -- and he took a mid major school to a BCS game. Mason was an above average coach and was able to win games at some schools that weren't used to it. But it took him time to build up and win.

He won instantly at both BG and Utah with players recruited by other coaches. Mason took several years at each school to bring in players before he started having winning seasons. Then he had a lot of seasons that were within a game or two of .500.

Meyer won at a much higher percentage and he did it almost from the first season. His second season at Utah he went undefeated; his second season at Florida he won a national title.

Mason didn't sniff that kind of success at any of his schools, and his best years came only after years of average records, for the most part.

Win the conference. Beat Michigan. That's it. One aberration in 40 years doesn't change that.

Yes, I know all of this. I do not really think Glen Mason is comparable to Urban Meyer. I would just rather OSU hire Mason than Meyer and was hoping that LJ would buy into Mason so he could get his good buddy Wexner to pull some strings.

This has to be a joke, I assume. I mean, OSU isn't the only school to go a long time between titles, or (in Florida's case) go even longer until they managed to win that first title. Both Texas and USC had very long droughts; Notre Dame is currently in one, too.

I didn't know you were talking about Mason, but I knew you weren't talking about Meyer otherwise, as WB said, there would have been mention of a national title or 2.

WTF? Why are we talking about Glen Mason? If OSU even thinks about hiring him, I will PUKE! Tressel got the job before him and Mason had much more D1 experience at that time. Please just stop the Mason talk..its going nowhere fast!

We've established that he brings a lot of the same things Meyer does. Sure he doesn't have two national titles, but he also does have nearly as many OC posts about what a classless scumbag douche he is.

Yeah I hope not but that's not why I said we won't be seeing him. He was available when Tressel was hired, he got passed over for a DII coach, he hasn't done anything to prove he's any better today than he was then, that ship sailed a long time ago imo.

But he would've been the second choice. And he had his best season at Minnesota after that. And wasn't he an honorary captain for an OSU game a couple years ago? If Meyer says "no".....

Not sure being an honorary captain anoints you JT's successor

I know what you're saying, just feel he's a long shot.

He wouldn't be a horrible hire, but he sure as hell ain't first on the list either.

I know, I'm just kidding. I read some blog where he was mentioned on a long list and thought it was kind of funny. Weird to think, with the benefit of hindsight, how different things might have been had Tressel not gotten the job over Mason the last time. Probably weren't many people who predicted the success that Tressel would have at the time he was hired, but now it is hard to imagine how anyone else could've possibly achieved the same things.

I think most were on board with Mason then, I know I was, made a lot of sense. The Tressel move was a huge shock, when I heard he was interviewing I thought it was merely throwing the guy a bone and didn't even really take it seriously. He was having good success at YSU and was already enjoying that ride. I was hugely skeptical, but he said all the right things and represented the University extremely well, the w's were a bonus coming later. New chapter...excited for the future, know Fickell won't be the guy, can't wait to hear REAL names being dropped.

I suppose I'm in the minority in my hope for Gruden to become the next coach. Given his likability on MNF and the Gruden QB camp, I'm not sure how anyone can draw the conclusion that he would be an unsuccessful recruiter. I think some have the false sense that recruiting is just "catering" to a high school kid's wants. Sure, there are some kids who may need that ego boost, but most simply want to find a coach with whom they feel comfortable with and with a successful plan/history. Gruden's NFL background would certainly be an asset on the trail. Although I'm not sure he'd even consider a college job, I'd love for him to be the next coach.
