Both Title matches this early?

It would have been worth the price of ordering the show to see Cena do the JOB at the PPV

What's the over/under on how long he will hold the belt? I say he will lose it in Feb at the Elimination Chamber.

I wont be too broke up after seeing Don Cena do the JOB.

Keep him out of the title picture for a long time.

I think he is set to go film another movie so that would probably be another reason why he dropped the title.

Sadly, King, I feel they gave Sheamus the belt for the sole purpose of there being a shocking title change. It will be back in Cena's hands at Royal Rumble. The title matches are secondary there to the Rumble, so it'll be the perfect time to hotshot the belt back to him.

With this being the FIRST "TLC" pay-per-view, they had to do something to make it special. So having Cena lose the belt (while not eating an actual pin or submitting to do so, due to the sort of stipulation that makes a fluke upset more conceivable) works to make tonight seem more memorable.

Especially after Sheamus just 'pushed' him off the top rope.

The announcers were debating whether or not Cena was pushed off or if Cena just fell off through the table.

There would be the out they can give to get the title off Sheamus.

Sheamus winning makes him credible for the forseeable future and was the smartest thing WWE could have done! Sure Cena will win it back at the Rumble or maybe he won't if they want to set up the Cena-Taker match at Mania but regardless great decision on WWE's part.

Ladder match with Shelton and Christian was awesome btw!

There was a fuck up.

You can clearly see by what happened tonight that they are going to build towards Cena and Undertaker at Wrestlemania

Oh yeah. Which makes it a PURE "fluke" victory due to the stipulation.

I don't know if you're old enough to remember this, GoChiefs (or anyone else reading), but I remember a certain NWA title reign that reminds me of the Sheamus push/title win. Growing up, I didn't think anything about it, but after reading Scott Keith's analysis of it, I understand it.

Back in the mid/late 80s, Ric Flair was both the main booker and champion for the NWA. He wanted to drop the belt so he could chase it for a couple months and then regain it. The best guy who was willing to take the role of "substitute champ" was mid-carder Ronnie Garvin. When he was champ, NO ONE who was anyone was willing to job to him, so he basically was an invisible (at least in the ring) guy who occasionally beat jobbers before mercifully losing the belt to Flair.

Look at Sheamus now. On RAW, he owns clean wins over Jamie Noble and Santino and a kick to Lawler's face. And a stipulation-induced title win over Cena. Hell, they haven't even (as of now) fed MVP, Bourne or even Primo to him. All of whom are faces on RAW, all of whom are currently going nowhere.

This makes me wonder, now that Sheamus is champ.....what will be his biggest win before dropping the belt? Will they give him a clean TV win over even a mid-card face.....or just have him beat up the low-carders and nobodies until they can get the belt off him. With him being foreign and all.....you always can dust the mothballs off Jim Duggan and have Sheamus kill him....or feed Lawler to him to settle their differences.

From a wrestling site:

There's a lot of confusion even backstage regarding the result of Sheamus going over John Cena in his Tables Match for the WWE Championship. I'm told the word at 6 PM Eastern was still for Cena to retain. We'll have more later, certainly some McMahon "trickery" going on

I'm sure they will have Sheamus fight some more credible people over the next few weeks but it is still a smart move to put the title on him.
