I said a long time ago when UCONN beat Notre Dame that he should be a candidate. Plus he has a connection to the program. Definitely not the most "sexy" hire out there, but I think he'd be solid

Skip Holtz should also be getting more love. I can't believe he is still down at ECU, you'd think he would have a better job by now. He must not interview very well or something?

He hasn't chased jobs all that much. The boosters in Greenville love him and he is the highest paid coach in that conference, edging out O'Leary by about 60,000 dollars. Well seeing that the last time Notre Dame was relevant, many Americans drove Edsels, I would say that Randy Edsall is a fitting choice!

The sign of a good coach is taking guys that may not be 5 star recruits and making them into productive players. I think Edsall has done that UCONN. I also could be wrong but they run more of a pro style offense and I don't think the spread would work at ND. I think with the weather there it would muck it up and I don't see ND fans being fond of that. Also, you have to remember UCONN plays a little bit of defense, UC, not so much.

I love when people refer to coaching in the north and the weather. How many games per year are actually played in below 35 degree weather? 2 max.

^I wholeheartedly agree. It's not the NFL; the college season is essentially wrapped up by Thanksgiving. The programs in the north don't have conference championships, and the only one the does (the MAC) plays in a dome in the last week.
I'd be interested in season what the temperature was in Minnesota for their last game.

In addition...UC's game against Pitt was in probably the worst conditions a team played in all year and Kelly's offense didn't get all "mucked up" when they scored 45.

44 degrees is nothing. I find it hard to believe guys that are tough enough to play FBS football are pussies when it comes to temperature. Grow a pair folks!

So besides the point that UC was able to put up 45 in perhaps the messiest game of the year against Pitt this year...let's be honest here, the climate between Cincinnati and South Bend isn't that different. You make it out like UC is in Florida and Notre Dame is in the Arctic Circle. It's maybe 5 degrees cooler in South Bend than it is in Cincinnati.

I know you said that the talks froze when they started talking about disciplinary stuff, but I am inclined to believe that they really never got past the "feeler" stage. I honestly think Notre Dame approached them, Bob Stoops liked when he saw and made some other requirements, and people in the know thought there was no way Notre Dame wouldn't give him everything he wanted and so they leaked it. I read and heard a lot of people in the business say they'd heard from people it was happening. Where there is smoke there is usually fire. It's different than an opinionated article saying Notre Dame should, they said it was happening.
I like to think Stoops wanted complete disciplinary control and Swarbrick told him Notre Dame doesn't let the thugs in and that he wouldn't get his wish. I think Stoops, seeing that, wasn't going to take his chances trying to rebuild a program without the tools he thought were necessary.
But again, I have no knowledge, that's just what I made out of reading the numerous bits and pieces.

I think Edsall would be a very mediocre hire. If I'm an Irish fan I'm praying the Brian Kelly rumors are true.

That's a good point. Not sure if it is because of the disciplinary thing, but it may be a power move by Notre Dame. They really have no leverage on Kelly. There hasn't been another serious coaching candidate all along. Its pretty much been all Kelly. So Kelly is probably aiming high3reppom wrote:
