LOL if the NCAA wants to give Ohio State a TV ban, there is zero the big ten network could do. That isn't going to happen anyway.

how does the ncaa decide who gets shown on tv? last I checked schools signed deals with tv networks...dont see how the ncca has anything to do with that.karen lotz;895217 wrote:LOL if the NCAA wants to give Ohio State a TV ban, there is zero the big ten network could do. Now hold on a second guys....
Now some of you may not like it....but the attitude about Ohio State is that they are the crown jewel of the NCAA. The NCAA has taken alot of shit about being easy on their "favorites". Maybe this is their way of saying "look,we don't take it easy on anyone anymore"

No, it really doesn't deserve discussion.
It isn't probably bullshit. It is almost certainly bullshit with about the same type of chances as you running off to marry Tim Tebow and Urban Meyer at the same time.

I think even the most anti OSU fan would shit their pants if it were that bad, considering the precedent isn't even close to there for it... And that is one hell of a new one to set.

It is amazing how an internet clown can start a rumor like this. There is no basis in this type of penalty, and if there is it will happen to Miami, not OSU.

This was kind of a popular punishment in the 80s and even into the early 90s. I would guess it is like any other potential punishment, if you want to play NCAA football you are going to abide by their rulings. Not sure how effective it has ever really been, but it seems like a TV ban would have a much larger impact now more than ever, given the money tied to it as well as the more prevalent national recruiting/exposure.Pick6;895257 wrote:how does the ncaa decide who gets shown on tv? last I checked schools signed deals with tv networks...dont see how the ncca has anything to do with that.
Oklahoma State is the one school that comes to mind that might have been crippled by a TV ban (they lost a lot of scholarships, too), right after Barry Sanders left. They were on the rise, had won 10 games a couple seasons in a row, and then completely tanked (and are just now really coming out of it). Clemson had a TV ban based on violations committed by members of their 1981 National Championship team and never really got back to the same level. Auburn went 11-0 in 1993 while not being allowed on TV and had been in national title talk a few times in the 80s but kind of tailed off.

The crown jewel of the NCAA? Where the fuck do you come up with this shit? Honestly, some of the dumbest crap...ever. And just because a bunch of hack pundits on the Internet call for hard penalties doesn't mean the NCAA is going to turn around and hammer Ohio State.Ty Webb;895272 wrote:Now hold on a second guys....

Such short bus reasoning.

As much as you don't like it...Ohio State IS the crown jewel program of the NCAA...there is no debate about it.
Some of you need to realize that Ohio State may get what USC got and maybe worse

If OSU gets penalties close to USC, I would hope the university never, ever self-reports or cooperates with the NCAA again. It's time to adopt the SEC approach and just deny, lie and obfuscate. Might as well take a chance they can't find out anything, because the penalties won't be any different.
Also, USC was hit with loss of institutional control -- and OSU was not. That lone should mean the penalties at OSU are far less.

I don't get this thinking. Tressel did lie. He was not forthcoming. OSU didn't report anything until Yahoo started requesting information. And the whole tattoo gate started with a federal investigation. OSU shouldn't get any credit for "self reporting".Writerbuckeye;896007 wrote:If OSU gets penalties close to USC, I would hope the university never, ever self-reports or cooperates with the NCAA again. I'll never understand why the NCAA thinks they are above the FBI.

Random question: let's pretend that OSU was scheduled to play at Notre Dame next season, and the NCAA issued a ban on all TV appearances for OSU. Would NBC lose out on that game? Just wondering how that works contractually.
