The third 63 yard FG in NFL history...
Elam
Dempsey with his flat prosthetic shoe
When is someone goin to go 64?

He kicked a 61-yarder against us two years ago.

Radio announcers said he was hitting 70 before the game.

77 yard punt in the same game from Shawn Lechler
All the kickers want to work in Denver.

Technically only 57, since it went in the end zone

Those white crosses were working well for Jani.

Net 57. But it is in the books as a 77 yarder! No technicality about it.Midstate01;894004 wrote:Technically only 57, since it went in the end zone

I believe he is capable of hitting a 70 yarder in Denver during a game.

He attempted a 76 yarder going into a half before. Came up way short, obviously.

He will probably hit a 65-70 yard FG before his career is done. Always loved him when his was at FSU.

Wasnt it raining and the field soaked? Even more impressive.

Denver is known for long FG's with that air. Besides Elam and Janikowski, former Brown Steve Cox hit a 60 yarder there. If the record is to be broken it will likely happen in Denver.

I saw him kick a 60 yd FG in high school. 0 altitude in that stadium.

Coaches have bigger balls in Denver in trying long FG's because of the altitude. I bet he could hit a 65+ about anywhere in good conditions.

Vanderjact hit some long ones (I think 60+) in a MNF or SNF game (Colts vs Broncos). Vanderjact was 61 and 57 if I remember correctly. Both cleared the post by a few yards.
EDIT: Ok, nm. They werent near 60. 54 and 51, to tie and then win in OT. But I do recall it was snowing pretty hard. It was a SNF game.

They have to. Ola Kimrin hit a 65 yarder in a pre-season game a few years back at Denver, and he didn't even make the team.thavoice;894246 wrote:Coaches have bigger balls in Denver in trying long FG's because of the altitude. I bet he could hit a 65+ about anywhere in good conditions.

These kick have to occur at the end of the first half or during a game that does not matter, otherwise the miss gives the ball to the other team at the wrong side of mid-field.

no doubt about it...it is definitely situational, and a combination of the kicker and the location.Sonofanump;895428 wrote:These kick have to occur at the end of the first half or during a game that does not matter, otherwise the miss gives the ball to the other team at the wrong side of mid-field.
which is probably why Dempsey's big kick has been threatened or approached so few times in so many years...

I was there in the front row. To me, this is more impressive than other of the others as it was done in the wind, sleet, rain and snow of Cleveland. I almost got run out of there during my celebration.GOONx19;893973 wrote:He kicked a 61-yarder against us two years ago.
Kiffin wanted him to try a 74 yarder during a game once. I think he's got a 70 yarder in his leg if he played in Denver. In Oakland, which is at sea level, the field is routinely wet as it has a very high water table in that area. It's amazing he's done as well as he has there. He usually has to kick off the dirt infield during the first part of seasons as well.
I still hear people ridiculing the Cryptkeeper for selecting Seabass in the 1st round and Lechler in the 2nd. It's been the best kicking/punting tandem in pro football for several years and yet the haters are still howling, such as Mel Kiper.

^ Yeah, I thought the conditions were pretty bad but I wasn't sure. It was over Christmas break, I think.

No doubt he is a great kicker. The question becomes is a guy who only plays a handful of plays a game worth a first round pick.BGFalcons82;895861 wrote:
