Just glad Meso is getting another start. Not sure you can sit Alonso as well as he's been hitting.

Met Meseraco at a small event this past winter. We talked for about 15 min I suppose...he is a good guy. (and a steelers fan of course).

Glad to see he got the call up and lets hope he can fit into his role, learn this year, and be able to hit the ground running.

The way it sounds, Hernandez will catch Cueto, Hanigan will catch Arroyo, and Meso will get most of the rest of the work.

That sounds good. Give him certain pitchers to really focus on so he doesnt have to learn the whole staff right away. Catchers call the games pretty much and it is best when they are on the same page with eachother.

That WP shoulda been caught yesterday.

I'd have Meso and Hanigan 60/40 the rest of the way. Hanigan deserves to keep a good bit of PT.....he's going to be the same role next year I'd bet.

Hernandez has done well....but won't be a Red. Mesoraco needs some defensive work it appears.

Anyone think Sappelt is in for Stubbs lack of focus?

Doubt it....Dusty loves Stubbs. Sappelt can play defense in the OF and everyone knows it.....he also can't hit much at the major league level and everyone knows it.....so let's bat him 2nd.......god I hate Dusty's attempt at logic.

Hoping for a WDD

I'd say it's more likely Hernandez is back next year than Hanigan. Ryan has some good trade value and deserves a shot to get 100+ starts somewhere. He was locked up before Mez proved he could hit AAA pitching for a lengthy time.

Give him a chance. He will hit he's already made some good adjustments.

I'm not convinced Sappelt will hit at the major league level.....he loves the letter high stuff and can't do crap with it.....kinda like Francisco.

Hanigan is still cheap right? Hernandez must take a huge paycut before I'd keep him over Hanigan.....and quite honestly....I'd rather have Hanigan show Mesoraco the way to catch.

Before I saw Sappelt actually play I had higher hopes for him. In ST he was tearing it up, and as well in AAA I think before he got hurt. While watching him with teh REds I just dont see it.

but....he put up numbers at AAA so ya gotta give him the benefit of the doubt I guess.

If stubbs didnt know how many outs there were then why was his standing on third base? WOuld he had been rounding third and half way home? Something was very odd on that play.

Laying off that pitch should be an adjustment he can make, much different than not being able to recognize a breaking ball in the dirt.

As for Hanigan, he would be a valuable trade piece because he's cheap. I think he makes about $3mil over the next 2 yrs. Mez doesn't need him, he's had Corky for awhile and has been a full time catcher the last 4 years. I'd take Hanigan over Hernandez too, but 1 can provide a return and the other can't.

Mo is only talking about the young guys and Bengals football this week on 700. Nice to hear something refreshing. Only 4 more Reds games til they really don't matter. Mike Brown sucks but at least he's handing the keys over to the young guys. Any other nonbandwagon Cincy fans looking forward to Sunday?

I think Sappelt can hit at the Major league level. Just needs to be a little more patient. He's hit pretty well as of late though.

How did the ump call the 0-1 pitch to Bruce a ball? He evened it up on the 3-1 pitch, then legitimately called ball 4.

After Mesoraco's infield hit to load the bases with 2 out, the ump abuses Cairo. The first five pitches were all outside. He had to swing at one the same amount outside as he called the the first two strikes and Cairo was lucky to foul it off. Then on the 2-2 pitch he got one on the plate, a perfect pitcher's pitch on the low outside corner and Cairo flied out to RF.

Leake thru 5 on 52 pitches with one baserunner, a hit by Soriano who was erased on a DP. Used 9 pitches to strike out Pena in the fifth when the ump didn't call the K on pitch 6. And the Reds take the lead in the 6th - will it hold up to give Leake his 12th win in possibly his last start of the season?

Need To get Leake out of the game and have him ice his arm 20 min on and 20 min off until the middle of February....then he can pitch 190 innings next year.

Leake throws at nearly the stress level of Maddux. He threw about 130 innings at age 22 and they are going to shut him off at about 165 this year cutting off about 4 starts.

I hate it. Hate it.

He has 14 pitches to complete the 9th in the fewest pitches for a complete game for the Reds. Surely that has to be only since they started keeping pitch counts.

Ump messed up the complete game shutout on 84 pitches by blowing the first pitch strike well within the zone on the first pitch to Castro!
