We all know that polls are idiotic this early in the season. But after one week in the books (Miami/Maryland to be played today of course), what's your new poll?

Hard to put TCU in the top 25 at all. They may end up there because of the nature of the polls, but the nature of how they lost, allowing 50 points to a likely .500 Big XII team, doesn't merit the top 25 ranking.

Like them or not, South Florida deserves a vote, whether we think ND is overrated or not.

Houston, Arizona and Iowa are also teams I'd consider. Still way too early though.

Oklahoma has a ton to prove to me for them to be a top 3 team in my book. I hate the Oklahoma love. I really have no idea why the media has them so high. I hope FSU beats them, but then again, I dont want ESPN drooling all over them either.

Really? The same Ole Miss that lost to BYU?

People have OSU jumping tot he top 10 because they beat up on Akron? Really?

I also agree with this. I am an Ohio State fan and I don't see how they can really be considered a top ten team right now with all that they have out for the first 5 games.

If the Buckeyes can survive the first few weeks and then the remnants of the infamous Tattooed 5 can step in and play well without skipping a beat for the balance of the season, then Ohio State will deserve a Top 10 ranking.

Fail. The thread is "What is YOUR top ten" - its not based off someone elses preseason rankings. We collectively agree that preseason rankings are junk, yet you taken the position that this preseason poll should be used like the end all be all of rankings and should affect your personal opinion.

My question for OSU was qb play. I feel confident that they showed their competence and have proven to me that they are a top 10 team.

I didn't have a clear cut top 10, and being a Buckeye fan, I threw them in as #10...just sayin'

The games that I watched were:

Wisconsin vs. UNLV
Ohio State vs. Akron
Auburn vs. Utah State
Florida St vs. Louisiana-Monroe
USC vs. Minnesota
LSU vs. Oregon
Georgia vs. Boise State
Maryland vs. Miami

For me, the most impressive teams were Wisconsin, LSU, and Boise St. Wisconsin because they looked like the real deal; LSU because they beat the #3 team in the country, without 2 of their biggest weapons (LSU's 'D' looked damn good), and Boise St because damn, that Kellen Moore just knows how to win.

Wisconsin looked solid. I think they can beat Nebraska. Not sure they're going to, but with that game being @ Madison, I don't see Wisky losing [right now]. I was impressed with QB Russell Wilson. He controlled the game and didn't make any mistakes. That's all Wisconsin needs him to do - manage the game. They don't need him to be a playmaker, as they Badgers have plenty of talent this year with RB James White, RB Montee Ball, and WR Nick Toon. Plus, that O-line is so massive that all they really should be doing is turning around and handing the ball off to White & Ball, and let them run behind those big hog-mollies.

Ohio State. My team. Boy was I impressed with the play of QB Joe Bauserman... and I feel good for the kid, too. All off-season, he had to listen to how Miller was going to come in and, basically, steal the keys to the car. Not so fast, my friend. Bauserman looked great. Yeah he didn't have to do much, and yeah it was "Akron," but he did what he needed to do - he managed the game. He was excellent at receiving the snap, turning around, and handing it off to the tailback. When called upon, he delivered a couple key strikes that led to moving the chains. I thought Bauserman did an excellent job for what I was expecting.

QB Braxton Miller looked pretty solid. I was disappointed that he only got 1 drive in the first half (although Bauserman was playing so well that you really couldn't pull him - especially since the game was still close thanks to terrible fumble by RB Rod Smith down at the goaline). Miller's first drive, he scrambled for 2 yards on what looked like a busted play. On 2nd down, he threw a beautiful pass to TE Reig Fragel that was dropped (Fragel's fault). And on 3rd down, the center (can't remember if it was Brewster or Fr. Bobek) rolled the ball back to Miller (who was in shotgun) and Miller did the smart thing by just falling on it.

The OSU defense was the 2nd impressive feat of the day. They were staunch. The D-line was getting some solid penetration up the middle, and the DBs were outstanding (although Akron's QB, C.Moore, was horrendous; I'm not sure he could hit a standing cow in a barn). The players I was most impressed with were backup DE J.T. Moore (he made a couple big plays and seemed to be getting some nice pressure off the end) and CB Dominic Clarke (Clarke had a couple HUGE pass breakups and seemed to be on his guy like glue). I don't recall seeing/hearing much from CB Bradley Roby, but when you're a CB, that's typically a great thing. LB Storm Klein was horrible I thought. I thought he was out of position on several plays, and I also found him running into blockers on needless occasions. He was definitely our weak spot.

At the WR core, Verlon Reed is going to be our big play guy this year. I was quite impressed with his ability to get open, and he demonstrated some pretty good speed after the catch as well. Without question, our best player on offense is TE Jake Stoneburner. The kid had 3 TD receptions (had 2 all last season) and is just a mismatch nightmare. He has the speed to abuse LBs, and he has the size to dominate DBs. Jake is going to have a big year.

Our RB play was nothing great. RB Carlos Hyde did an excellent job of grinding out tough yards (I don't think he fumbled either), but he really didn't have any key/big runs. His style reminded me a lot of RB Dan Herron's - gets those 3 tough yards, and he does not make it look pretty. RB Rob Smith has the build of an RB god; unfortunately he looks to shy. There were too many times I saw him stretching it to the outside, waiting for the hole to develop, and it never did. I'd rather see him use his speed to burst to the outside/gap, and then rely on his strength to run over a defender. I was also very displeased with his costly fumble at the goaline. We can't have that.

The surprise of the day, for me, was LP/specialist #34 Nate Ebner. Man... this guy was EVERYWHERE on special teams. If he wasn't making the tackle, then he was blowing up the blocker so that the next guy could make the tackle. Apparently my high asssessment of Nate's play this past weekend did not go unnoticed by others either, as I just recently read that Nate will be a captain now for the Week 2's matchup vs. Toledo. I was very impressed with the former Australian rugby player.

Kicking game. We need to find our place kicker and find him fast. K Drew Basil's two FGs were pretty bad. I do not want to have to rely on that leg come a big game. Not good.

Auburn. Auburn looked atrocious. I am so glad to see that the posters dropped them out of the top 25 because they should not have won that game. Utah State was 1 play away from beating them (the onside kick that they, for some reason, weren't ready for). Auburn will be lucky to win 4 more games this season. I have them now losing to Mississippi St, S. Carolina, Arkansas, Florida, LSU, Georgia, and Alabama. Auburn's defense is putrid.

Florida State. Nothing fancy. They won. QB E.J. Manuel looked alright. Not so confident they will beat Oklahoma, but I like the fact that the game is still in Tallahassee. FSU should win the ACC (if not them, then Va Tech).

USC is either in for a long season, or Minnesota is much better than we all thought. I think it's a mix of both. I think USC will still lose to Stanford and Oregon, and I bet they find a way to lose one more as they don't seem to be that good of a team right now. Right now, it's basically the QB Matt Barkley and WR. R. Woods show. Woods is one heckuva talent. I was really impressed with that kid. He will be a pretty big time WR at the next level (ala Steve Nicks, perhaps?!). I think Minnesota can pull-off 7 games this yr tho (ppl would have scoffed at that tho this off-season).

LSU. Wow. What can I say. They played what was practically a home game versus the Ducks, but man... being down your starting QB (Jordan Jefferson) and your impact playmaker (WR Russell Shepard) and still being able to knockoff the high powered Ducks (and making it look somewhat easy, mind you) is quite impressive. Now, I'm not going to go totally all in on the Tigers because Oregon committed 4 turnovers (including the dropped punt return where not even 1 single Tiger player touched the guy, but led to 7 pts). I'd argue only 1 of those turnovers was really caused by LSU. I sitll think LSU has the hardest schedule in college football this season, so while they clearly looked like one of the nation's best teams this past weekend, I don't see them being in the running at the end of the season - purely because of the schedule they have to go thru.

Oregon turned the ball over, and really didn't look like the team they were last season. I think they are missing some key players up front (from last season's team), but they sure do have some speed in the backfield with RB LeMichael James and RB De-Anthony Thomas). I think Thomas is too small (to be honest), but boy is he exciting to watch. And QB Darron Thomas is awful. If anything, it looks like this kid has actually regressed. I'm sure the Ducks will get it together and go on a tear, but I can honestly see them losing to potentially another 3 games. I'd say 2 for sure. Oh... and Oregon's unis on Saturday night might have been the 2nd best uniforms I have ever seen (second to the ones they wore in last season's title game). If they would have taken the helmet's that they wore against Auburn, I would surely be saying #1.

Georgia. What a disappointment. Headcoach Mark Richt better look out. I'm almost willing to bet that he's not in power at the end of the season. Simply too many losses to too inferior opponents. Aside from WR Boykin, there didn't appear to be a lot of talent on that team.

Boise State. Ughhh... this pains me to say it, but I think we finally have to start giving Boise State their props. Yes they will only play Georgia this year... Yes they caught an SEC team on a down year... but they keep winning some pretty big games - #19 Georgia; #10 Va Tech, #24 Oregon State, and #19 Utah in 2010; #16 Oregon, #4 TCU in 2009; #17 Oregon in 2008; Oklahoma in 2006. It pains me to consider them a good team because they don't play anyone in conference play, but they've won some pretty big games as of late. I just wish they were in a tougher conference. Also, can't say enough about that QB Kellen Moore kid. Kid just seems to know how to win. I doubt he goes on to have a career at the next level (ala Jared Zabransky), but boy can he get it done at the college level. Here's to hoping TCU can get up enough to knock them off. Also, don't be so surprised if Toledo can someone provide a solid fight against the Broncos.

Maryland's new style of offense is quite exciting. It's gimmicky, and it would probably not work against your OSUs/Oklahomas/USCs/LSUs of the world, but it's fun to watch. It reminded me a lot of Oregon's. And their uniforms were pretty sweet too. Loved the 2-face helmet. That was pure genius! The fact that they almost lost to a depleted Miami, however, I think will spell a loooooong year for the 'Terps. They better enjoy those uniforms because I think that's all they'll be celebrating this season.

Miami. I was shocked at how long Miami was able to last in their game against Maryland. It took a last minute INT pick 6 to basically seal that game. Now... Maryland did move the ball quite easily down the field (and had a costly turnover in endzone which killed their drive), but Miami managed somehow to stay in the game. This either speaks volumes to the reserves Miami has, or says Maryland really isn't that good. I think it's the later. I was, however, slightly impressed with Miami's QB, S.Morris. The kid appeared to have a nice arm, and made some smart decisions. I doubt he starts over QB Jacory Harris next week, but I wouldn't be surprised if there's a mini- QB controversy later on in the season. Harris is talented, but he makes some ill-advised decisions too often. Miami will be much improved when Ray Ray Armstrong and Travis Benjamin return to the lineup.

^ Good analysis (outside of the fact that you actually liked Maryland's helmets and Oregon's jerseys). I personally would be very surprised if Nebraska can win @ Wisconsin, and I think your guess of 3 losses for USC might be generous. I think Notre Dame and maybe Arizona State are just better teams than the Trojans this year, and USC plays both of those games on the road. And then obviously UCLA is never a cakewalk either. I'd say the Trojans are looking at another 8-4 season.
