Take no money for a 3rd stringer
Take no money to be a starter ANYWHERE

Which are you choosing???

Not saying he is making money now. But to stay in the NFL as a 3rd stringing, he would have to make a decent amount of coin cause Im sure he would rather play anywhere than ride the pine for comparative income.

It's not comparative income though. haha.

At the very least Smith would make $600k in the NFL. If he plays in the UFL, he'll make $45,000 to $50,000. It seriously isn't even close.

Of all that, you pick that?

Point remains, I dont think he A. Wants to be in the NFL as a 3rd stringer B. I dont think any team would pay him the minimum he would require (like 700k) C. I think he would rather take less money to start anywhere than ride the pine.

Troy Smith at this point, wants to be a starter somewhere IMO.

Obviously no teams were knocking on the door, however, if he plays good in the UFL he could get a phone call.

He's made some pretty decent bank in the NFL thus far, so I'm sure he can afford this move as long as he's been smart with his money.

It was me...doofus. I said TP would be catching footballs not throwing them....and then you had the balls to call me a racist for my assessment. There are a ton of successful black quarterbacks in the NFL now. For you to draw a correlation that my comment was racist borders on insanity. But keep your fuggin sig line. one would think you'd have deleted it by now...as you will be eating your words....give it time.

The thing with Smith is he no longer qualifies for the rookie minimum. NFL teams looking for a 3rd stringer are generally looking for the least amount of salary possible. Plus, teams seem to think if a player doesn't 'break out' by their fourth year, they never will. Just look at Kurt Warner for that type of issue. It took him going to the AFL and NFL Europe before a team was even willing to bring him back as a backup.

the 49ers organization is a joke. They will have a losing record even while being in the weakest division in the NFL this year.

And you do? The implication that "Troy Smith should be an NFL starter" (comment) pretty much flushed your cred down the toilet.

Troy Smith was 3-1 as the 49ers starter last season.
Also had the most passing yards in a single game for the 49ers last season with 356 against the Rams.

Alex Smith was 3-9 as the starter.

Broncos, Rams, and Cardinals were some really good teams. How did he play in the loss? And also, how did he play in the 2 wins that he didn't throw for 356?

Has nothing to do with not liking OSU, as BR said, homer fans are great.

lol, winning games is what matters. But then again, you are a Notre Dame fan, so winning must not be that important to you. You prefer the QB's who put up big numbers, but cant win games in the NFL (Quinn, Clausen). ;)

Lol, didn't mean it in a bad way...this is just good stuff.

I actually sort of agree with both sides of the argument..which is hilarious because they're completely opposite

The number of teams with three QBs should shrink by one soon. The 49ers are on lookout for backup.
Can't believe they let Troy Smith go.

theUFL The UFL

Which Heisman winning QB will lead the @OmahaNighthawks during the #UFL season opener on September 15? Troy Smith or Eric Crouch?

Can't believe someone good enough to start for an NFL team is in a battle with Eric Crouch for a UFL team's starting spot.
