Hopefully this starts a trend for RBs getting shorter contracts.

It's actually a 6 year deal since he had 2 yrs left on his current contract.

I don't think giving CJ the biggest RB contract in the league and giving the most guaranteed money to a RB in NFL history is "winning."

The Titans had to get a deal done though

All contracts are going to be bigger now to proven stars. That's why the players union allowed the rookie pay scale.

Yeah... I didn't say it was a bad move or that he is overpaid. Just said that giving CJ more money than every other RB in the league doesn't quite equal "winning" the negotiation

After ADP, Forte, and Ray Rice get contracts next season. I bet they all get overpaid.

I think he is overpaid. Is Chris Johnson a good back--- absolutely. Is he the best running back in football--- no. If Johnson were not there there a lot of other running backs out there. They might not be as good as Chris Johnson, but I don't think the drop off would be as bad as many think as far how it effects the team.

If we were talking QB, LT or defensive lineman it would be another story.

I believe a bulk of the guaranteed money comes in the last couple years of the contract?

With that said, I don't blame CJ at all for wanting a new contract. The shelf life of a RB isn't very long and he wanted a big payday before he began declining.

Agreed. 2000 yard backs with a 5ypc career average are pretty much dime a dozen. They should of just told him to GTFO.

What good is it if your team didn't make the playoffs and went 8-8 the year he ran for 2006 yds?

Also a great point. Amazing players on bad teams should never get paid good money. I dont see them making a superbowl run anytime soon. Should of just cut him 2 save the money.

4 yrs ,53 million 30 million guaranteed isn't "good money" its ridiculous money for a RB. He had 2 years left on his contract they should have let it play out. But you are right about the Titans not making a Super Bowl run anytime soon.

Then you have a terrible team and should hold on to your one star. Tenn didnt really have a choice

I'd have been tempted to tell him to take a hike after he said he wanted to be the highest paid playmaker in the league or whatever. I definitely wouldn't have given him "ridiculous"money.

Something he needs to understand, as Mark Schlereth(sp?) explained, there are four pillars around which
you build your team: QB, LT, Pass rusher, and cover corner. Running back is not one of those positions and CJ needs to understand that. If he wanted to be the highest paid playmaker in the league TN was looking for a QB. He couldve shown them his stuff.

I agree with this. Being arguably the best running back in the game is good and all, but when running back is about the most replaceable position in the game, it doesn't really mean he's "highest paid dude ever" good or anything.

Id argue having a top of the line RB who can score anytime he touches the ball is just as important as a pass rusher or a cover corner. Schlereath talks out of his ass half the time

He has carried the ball 925 times and has 34 TD's thats about 1 TD for every 30 touches. The 2nd part of your answer is nonsense.
Barry Sanders was a way better RB than Chris Johnson yet the Lions only won 1 playoff game his entire career. Why? because they didn't have a top of the line QB,pass rusher or cover corner.

Many people have said DE, CB, and LT are almost as important as QB. It is no secret that anyone in the NFL thinks those are the 4 most important positions to have.

They didnt have an entire team, thats why they sucked and Barry only had 1 playoff win. If your entire team sucks of course you're not gonna have those "key positions" And btw they had Robert Porscher who was an elite pass rusher in his prime for them. And the 2nd part of my answer as in talking about how schlerath is a douche who just likes to hear himself talk?

And how many Rbs are there that have, 4.2 speed, average 5 yards a carry, can break it anytime they touch it, 7 yards a reception and are fairly young? If you dont hang on to any playmakers, adding a QB and a cover corner/pass rusher isnt gonna get you anywhere. The Titans would be dumb to of let him go
