There was another report where a player knelt down, prayed, and was penalized for it.

TD Celebrations are always going to be speculated and be left up to interpretation. In this instance, it was a bad interpretation.

1. Let's drill someone for calling the BJ/SJ.... a ref. Really? People use the term "ref" when referring to any official in virtually every sport besides baseball because they are all umpires. It's a pretty universal term.

2. Cav's comparison isn't too far off base.

3. I'm not saying that the point is/isn't excessive celebration. I'm disputing your stance that it could be flag worthy because 9 players were celebrating.

Heck...reminds me of Oregon showing the "O" after they score...all good. Last years Buckeyes in throwback uni's ...show the "O" on their gloves...and get flagged????

We had the call made on us last year when Max Pirman caught a pass was almost in the end zone and raised his hand into the air, scored and ran up field to his teamates , but was flagged for raising his hand. No other players were in the endzone to celebrate.

1. Was this action plural or possessive? What I see on this thread is a collective bashing based upon incorrect assumptions. It was one official who threw the flag. Was he correct in the rule? Yes. Would I have throw the flag under similar circumstances? IDK.

Don't celebrate. Don't celebrate in at all, "excessive" level or not.

Do not make any indications at all until you get to the sidelines. It's that simple. If there's a concern about interpretations, take the judgement away from the ref. Make it as clear as jumping off sides.

It can be done even with the emotion of the game and kids being young. It can be done and in fact is every weekend.

honestly.... you can probably take a rule and disern it anyway you want .. kind of like the society that we live in today .... too much court TV .. What the heck happened to good old fashioned common sense .... People are trying to read into every little single possibility ... the ref in this case was just way over zealous period plain and simple .. He messed up or he is dishonest ... guys like that ruin the game ... No helmet was taken off .. no taunting was going on .. the sidelines didnt come onto the field .. cmon .. .. COMMON SENSE PEOPLE

and BTW why take the fun out of the game .... stupid if you ask me ... I am not a person who likes the showboating that goes on in the NFL although some of it is funny .... The only ability the players have to completely avoid the penalty is to not celebrate. If they choose to make any non-football action recognition of their efforts they take the risk of the "over zealous" flag.

Celebrations used to be acceptable to me and enjoyable to see. Because an increasing number of idiots choose to push the envelope there are going to be refs who push back maybe even farther to combat it.

If the potential penalty isn't worth it don't do it, at all.
