Here's a twist none of us saw coming -- Reverse pay-for-play. What does that mean you might be asking yourself? It is just what it sounds like.
Cheryl Krueger, co-founder of Cheryl and Co. sold her company to 1-800-FLOWERS in 2005 for millions. In the words of one of the coaches (who remains anonymous), she has been a big-time donor and philanthropist to the University for well over 20 years. She is also a board member for Bob Evans restaurants.
Here's the meat of the story -- Her son Cavin Green, a redshirt freshmen from New Albany, Ohio is a member of the Ohio State football team. He is listed as a DL and wears #94.

So he's a walk-on trying to make the team. What's your point?

from the article
Well, the problem is that there is no record of Cavin Green ever playing prep football, or any sport for that matter during his high school days at Columbus Academy -- so how and why is he on the 85-man roster at Ohio State, one of the nation's most elite DI football programs?

Anybody can try out for the team. We've had punters and kickers the last few years who didn't play football, they were from Australia. The kid made the squad as a tackling dummy. Big deal.

hahahahahah GTFO you know exactly why he's there.
There are walk-ons everywhere that don't deserve it and/or are there on name recognition alone. It's fine.

I am sure Adam griffin is on the team for his elite football skills despite only holding offers from air force, eastern illinois, and navy. I see no big deal in this, somebody pulled some strings for a booster so their kid could become a walk-on tackling dummy. Hell adam griffin even received a freaking scholarship.

If that blog states he's on the roster of 85 scholarship players -- I'm betting it's wrong. There's a huge difference between being on the roster and on the roster of 85 that the NCAA looks at. I'm betting the writer doesn't know the difference.
By the way, his link doesn't work, anymore.

Yeah, he's on the 105. Not on the 85 or 60

I'm missing the hilarity and/or outrage, too. As already pointed out, Adam Griffin is a primary example. Moving on.

I am OK with giving a couple of walkon spots out like that, as long as he competes in practice. I don't expect him to play or anything. Welcome to the reality of college football.

Article is a joke.
Kid is getting to practice with the team, not a full ride scholarship.
Not like his mom gave the coaches free cookies for life for a walk-on spot.

The blogger boy envisions himself as Woodward and Bernstein - breaking the big conspiracy wide open. As stated on this thread, this is a non-issue. If the kid wants to be apart of the team and he works out, etc, who cares who his mother is. I for one would never want to be a practice squad player because I don't particularly care for getting my ass kicked daily. However if that means a lot to some kid, and his mother has done a lot of good for a lot of people, and he's not taking the place of anyone deserving, why do we care?

The original post is a poor summary of story and I don't see what the issue is here?

Would just to point out that Nate Ebner of Hilliard, now on the Ohio State roster and awarded a scholarship for his senior year, never played high school football. He was a Rugby player.
