LaBrae comes into Reilly Stadium for the Thursday Night opener. 7:00 Kickoff.

Last year Salem had to pull one out late 28-21, but Salem is now sans Toothman, and LaBrae is apparently loaded in the backfield.

I only saw Salem's last scrimmage (one half, thanks to lightning), and all I took from that is that if it comes down to a PAT we are in trouble because our kicking game is hurting.

Anyone else see more this preseason to have any better insight?

Go Quakers. For the first time since 02 I wont be spending my fall at Reilly Stadium, gonna be weird. From what i've been hearing though they should be alright if they can come in with the right attitude and right mental approach. The LaBrae game should be a good measuring stick to see where they are.

Where are they sending you this year? Down south?

Losing elkins last yr is a loss for Labrae in the speed category... Should be a hard fought game whoever wins the TO battle should get the W to start off the year.

I only saw the EL scrimmage and came away with more questions than answers. Right now I have to call the game a toss-up only because of my lack of knowledge regarding this years Quakers. If the on-field talent is equal, this may come down to the battle between the crafty coaching legend Bill Bohren, and the up and coming coaching talent of Kopachy.

your obviously a Salem player, just be careful what you say...you wouldn't want to give the other side any bulletin board material.

Salem has its strengths and so does Labrae, which should make for a very good game. Kopachy will always have some tricks up his sleeve but I'd be willing to bet so does Bohren. Too close to call at this point.

He really hasn't said anything that would make me believe he is a plyer but what he is saying about both schools is true.

Quakers controlled much of the game but could not deliver the scores on their drives. On the other side they played pretty well defensively, especially the defensive line and linebackers, holding LaBrae to just 55 rushing yards, but 3 big pass plays were the difference in the game. Hopefully they rebound next week.

Salem most definitely controlled the first half, but after the break was all LaBrae.

Salem has a few things to iron out. Offensive line (especially the right side) needs a little work. QB accuracy was a little off, some stemming from the lookout blocks the line was throwing. Lots of penalties, so there is the discipline factor. It wasn't all bad, as Oats said we drove deep into LaBrae territory twice in the first half, but then failed to score on any of them.

One thing I noticed both in the last scrimmage and last night, and I know I'll probably have some people mad at me over saying this, but the team just seems lethargic. Lots of walking between plays, when they break the huddle, etc. EL and LaBrae were both the exact opposite when it came to hustle.

Salem had 251 yards of total offense last night with about 80 of it coming on the final drive against Labrae's second team...a drive Salem also scored on to avoid the shutout. So 170 yards over 4 quarters is not a typical Kopachy offense and after seeing the game there were things that Salem could of taken advantage of but their quarterback was not able to make it happen and a lot of it had to do with him being harassed...I believe he was sacked a half dozen times and hit at least that many times when trying to throw. After saying all that, Salem still had opportunities to score but two costly fumbles by their senior running back doomed their chances. Their defense did shut down Labrae's rushing attack but to do that they had to send blitzes all night which left them vunerable to the pass, which Labrae took advantage of. Salem will respond next week because they have a very good head coach but what should be of concern is that Labrae might only be the 6th or 7th best team on their schedule and they were basically shut out so what are those other teams going to be able to do to them?? Time will tell but I know they will get better over the course of the year because they have a man at the helm that will simply not except anything less.

Bummer. I know I'm just restating what everyone has said, but it was a case of too many turnovers and too many penalties. They took momentum away from Salem just when you thought they were going to get something going. TS1227, I agree that the excitement and enthusiasm on the sidelines just didn't seem to be there.

To say Salem was in control of the game at any point is laughable. Labrae took the opening drive right down the field to the Salem 20 yard line. Salem answered with a nice drive that also fizzled out, but they certainly didn't control anything. They blitzed like crazy all night and left themselves open to the pass. Of course there weren't a lot of rushing yards against that look, but Labrae has a young quarteback who can really sling the ball and he burned them bigtime. I think if they would have gone to air more that game could have been 42-0 or worse, but there was no need because Salem couldn't put anything together to get the score closer than two touchdowns. Labrae just ran the ball and basically drove home with a shutout.

Then why did we have more yards and more first downs?

We simply shot ourselves in the foot.

Correction Quaker fans...Labrae had 239 yards and 21 points against Salem's varsity defense and Salem had 170 yards and 0 points against Labrae's varsity defense...that last drive was done against Labrae's JV team. First downs were a virtual tie discounting that last drive, but I wonder how many of those first downs Salem had in the second half. Salem did have their chances to make that a game and it wasn't a blow out by any means but Salem controlled nothing and would of been out gained and shut out if Labrae keeps their varsity defense in. Good Luck to both teams against the ITCL in Week 2
