That isn't the way they stated it. They lied, plain and simple, and they did it to fuck with Texas A&M.
it is in the best interests of each of our conferences and our member institutions of higher education to waive any and all legal actions by either conference and its members resulting from admission of Texas A&M into the SEC

Oh, so Texas becomes the 2005 Big Ten champion when they join, right? Damn, its crazy how those Buckeyes keep finding ways to abandon conference championships.

Let's phrase it this way.

Say I took the top 12 all time teams in National Titles and put them all in the same conference. You'd still have SEC fans claiming they are the best conference because they won 5 in a row. Like I said, enjoy your terrible academic conference and being at best the second best conference.

Come on, stay on topic. We're not talking about quiz bowls. You always pull out the academic stuff when you get desperate. We are talking about college football here.

In your scenario, I would gladly take the match-up (SEC keeps their own schools) against the following:

Princeton
Yale
Michigan
Notre Dame
USC
Pitt
Harvard
Ohio State
Oklahoma
Penn
Michigan State
Minnesota

Heck, you could even throw in California and Cornell if you wanted to account for the upcoming expansion.

There's no point in arguing with sleeper. It's still the 1900's according to him.

The Texas/ND thing is intriguing but I doubt it could happen. What would happen with the Longhorn Network? I thought ESPN and Texas got married for like 20 years for that thing and ESPN made a $300 million dollar investment in it, I can't see them letting it go to waste or becoming BTN2 or anything like that. Although its interesting to note that the Longhorn Network still isn't close to being picked up by any of the major cable/dish companies in Texas.

18 seems possible, but really bloated. 20 is just unfeasible.

Maybe the non-Big East football schools (Notre Dame, Marquette, St. John's, Georgetown, Nova, Seton Hall, Providence, and DePaul) could attract a few other schools and form their own basketball conference. The A-10 has 14 teams, maybe go after Xavier, Richmond, and Temple or something. Could be a nasty basketball conference.

I'm sure the Big East would never let that happen though.

Why do you always change the rules when you're losing? It isn't my fault that by your historical standards the FCS has more FBS national titles than the FBS. Do we just act like those years never happened (like last year's OSU season)?

If TCU gives them 9 teams next year, are they planning on losing teams and replacing them with the Big XII leftovers or are they just taking a select few. Baylor thinks it has an invite to the BE and I'd assume Kansas and Kansas State would be part of the deal. Iowa State and Missouri got anything going on? Heck, if Texas doesn't go west, would Texas Tech also be looking?

Seton Hall, Providence, and Marquette would be the most likely to get the boot in my opinion. Notre Dame is Notre Dame, St. Johns is in New York and plays at MSG (no way they would be kicked out), Georgetown has history and is still a top program and they are in DC. Nova is in Philadelphia and are considering the jump to D-1A in football. DePaul, while crappy in basketball right now, is still in Chicago which helps the other programs recruit in that area.

Providence is untouchable. The Big East headquarters is located there, the commissioner came from Providence (so did the previous commissioner) and most of the staff at HQ is compromised of people who came from Providence. On the Big East boards we refer to the Big East leadership as the "Providence Mafia" because of the strangle hold they have over the conference (while not really adding thing back to it).

Seton Hall, Depaul and Marquette would get the axe. Depaul is located in Chicago but it really does not bring the Chicago market. In addition, none of the Big East schools really recruit in Chi-town. There is plenty of talent on the east coast (down to Florida) and in Ohio, Michigan and Indiana to pick from.
