the dell is good IMO only because you would be getting the 3 year protection and I know that they stand by that. Now if you do not get, that's another story lol.
In reality I would get about the cheapest one possible if your set on getting a Laptop. Non of them last very long as they just get crazy hot and the batteries just plain suck IMO. I would get a desktop and a net-book for around the same price but that is just me.

If the warranty is the only reason you say Dell then i think I will stay away from it. All 3 have the exact same coverage and will be fixed on campus.

Dell is great for schoolwork not so great for entertainment. You should also look into asus. They are a brand that used to just make parts for all the other companys and now put their own together and are pretty damn good and cheap

Lenovo ThinkPad T520
I bought my Mother-in-Law an Asus a few months ago. I'm thinking it was less than $400.00sportchampps;859310 wrote:Dell is great for schoolwork not so great for entertainment. Im only looking into these three computers because when I buy one of them I can get all problems fixed on campus and won't have to worry about being without the laptop for weeks while it gets fixed. I had multiple people tell me to look into ASUS but these laptops are the best and most convenient for me

I'd go with the T420 personally with the larger HD. I prefer a smaller screen.

Can't get that with the school discount. So it would cost a lot more by the time i bought the warranty and everything I would need. Plus im not sure if the school would fix it since i didnt buy it there

No, but I've had two Dell's in the past for work and they were both junk.

I would think that just buying a laptop computer is a silly idea. Your buy the car before you know what your usage will be....
Depending on your major and the required software for the course of study is and important factor in this process.
We need more information: What is your major?
What would be some required software for this study?

The new MacBook Air's are nice. Worth a look even if you're not an Apple fanboy.
But I'd go with your first choice just because of the smaller screen and similar specs.
