What are your top 5 "letdowns" in your life?

5. The cancellation of Flash Forward after one season. -- Greatest show that nobody watched.

4. "Hollywood" Hogan and Bash At The Beach '96 -- The world's biggest star spits in the faces of Hulkamaniacs all across the word and basically gives a big F U.

3. Graduate school sweetheart -- She absolutely shattered my heart... twice.

2. Spider-Man 3 -- The movie was setup for greatness of epic proportions and delivered a piece of crap that is bigger than Tobey Maguire

1c. OSU's national championship loss to LSU in '08.

1b. OSU's national championship loss to UF in '07.

1a. LeBron James and The Decision -- Cleveland was supposed to finally win a championship. Enough said.

If those are the top 5 real letdowns in your life then you have lived a pretty great life. I can appreciate Ironman limiting his to sports only.

hmm sports only...

1. Notre Dame losing to BC on a last second FG the week after beating Florida State in the Game of the Century. FSU and ND both finished with one loss, ND won head to head, FSU won National Title.
2. Braves losing 1-0 to Jack Morris in game 7 of 1991 WS.
3. ND football 1994-2009
4. Magic Johnson retiring
5. I guess can throw in only 1 WS championship for Braves in their run of division titles.

How I forgot Magic retiring is completely beyond me....might be my #1

I agree, so I'm limiting this to sports also

1. Finding out Jim O'brien was a cheater. (Tressel was probably a bigger deal, but O'brien crushed my naivete.)
2. 95 OSU/Michigan game (maybe even the entire Cooper era...)
3. OSU losing to Florida in the 06 Title game
4. 07 OSU to Illinois at home (I thought they were going to go all the way and make up for the previous year!)
5. 02 unranked and 12th seeded Missouri beats OSU in the NCAA tournament

First three that came to mind, sports-wise ...

Gophers blow a 28-7 second half lead to Michigan in '03
Gophers blow a 34-24 lead over Wisconsin late in the fourth - the Badgers block a punt right in front of me with 30 seconds to play in '05
Gophers blow a 38-7 second half lead to Texas Tech in '06

I'd have to think about the others.

I was driving when I heard the score and was shocked to hear Michigan was losing. We pulled into the closest sports bar to watch only to be let down.

Gophers were top 20 and undefeated, Barber and Maroney in the backfield, and put up over 400 yards rushing on the Wolverines (who were top 10 I think). All else the same, Gophers win that game, they go to the Rose Bowl that year (would've tied with Ohio State, Michigan, and Purdue at 6-2 but the Gophers didn't play the Boilers or Buckeyes that year). Still haven't been to Pasadena since 1961. What a freakin' stomach punch.

--Super Bowl XXX. First real super bowl that I got to watch the steelers in. Such a disappointment to lose.

--1999 or 98 state finals Coldwater vs Orrville. The disappointment wasnt the loss, but getting home that night to see the highlights and that the winning touchdown by the opponant was sropped in the endzone with about a minute to go. I wish he woulda caught it.

--around 1992 when IU lost in the NCAA tournament to kansas. Probably was the best IU team I remember watching with Black and white graham's, Bailey, Henderson, Chaeney and more. HEnderson got hurt and that was too much to overcome.

--Signing of Whiffey Jr. He was supposed to be the final piece of the puzzle, but in reality the reds just had guys who had career years such as Reese and casey.

--Getting double dipped by Bellefontaine in the state acme finals. They came from the losers bracket...we in the winners, and we had to beat them once, and they had to beat us twice. Overall, they were a much better team with a number of guys going on to play DI but I thought we could steal one of the games and become champs.

5. Finding out my nephew had failed to turn in an ROTC project at the end of the year, costing him his full ride to FAMU
4. 1998 MSU/OSU
3. getting out of the military. I looked forward t it for two years, and once I was out, I missed it
2. our teenage daughter abusing a privilege. I hated having to take away her blackberry
1. Learning that my wife was pregnant with twins, only to find that one was going to die at birth of trisomy-18.

2003. Didn't the NFL threaten to end its relationship with ESPN/ABC because it didn't like the way it portrayed the players?

Sports only. No particular order.

WVU losing to Pitt and missing out on the National Title game.
Reds getting swept by Phillies in playoffs (especially the no-hitter).
The past two AFC title games.
Reds losing 1 game playoff to Mets in 1999.
Ken Griffey Jr's overall time in Cincinnati.

I lived through that when the show was called "1st and 10" on HBO about 25 years ago. Every Playmakers episode was a rip off from that show.

Good topic!

A couple of sports ones off the top of my head:
-- The whole saga with #4...:(
-- The Decision. Made me give up the NBA, so it could be a plus.
-- Griffey leaving Seattle. Made me give up the MLB, so it could be a plus.
-- 2011 Gold Cup loss to Mexico
-- 2006 and 2010 USMNT showing in the World Cup
