more impressive and which is harder to do?


28 guys have 3000+ hits.
24 have 300+ wins.
25 have hit 500+ homeruns.

The landscape has changed in MLB a few times.
-You had the dead ball era.
-They lowered the mound 30 or so years ago to spurn hitting.
-Steroid era
-times when starters got alot more starts/season.
-back in the day hitters got to face tired pitchers more often late in the game instead of the constant use of the bullpen.


Remember......about 40% of the roster is pitchers, of which only 5 are starters.

My first glance was that 300 wins was the hardest and most impressive. It was the hardest because you are not always in control of the outcome because of the bullpen.

but, there are 24 of them and such a small amount of your roster is a starter.

And again......I am unsure if we will see many 300 win pitchers in the game again but I am sure we will see 3000 hits and 500HR multiple times.

So..what say you?

Take a 15 year career.
3000 hit guy has to average 200 hits a year. Pretty good year.
300 win guy has to average 20 wins a year. Not seen

300 wins. Starts don't play everyday, the stat depends on how your lineup is doing, and to make things tougher if you are in the AL you have to deal with a DH.

My thoughts exactly. That's 20 wins a year for 15 years. No way modern day pitchers are hitting that. You need to pitch 20+ years to have a realistic shot, and even then you probably need to pull a Greg Maddux and just dominate baseball for 4-5 consecutive years.

It's harder for 300 wins....but maybe it shouldn't be...pitching today you have Sabathia and Halladay that may give it a run....but I'm not sold that a 4 man rotation or pitchers getting more innings at a younger age is better. A lot of 300 win pitchers that started in the mid 60's and threw there arms off until well into the 80's????? How did they pitch that much and so long?

Easily 300 wins:

Only one where you dont control exactly the outcome, and the game has changed so much with bullpens that starters cant accumulate as many wins or starts each year. Hitters are the same. 4-5 ABs a game.

There are only 2 current pitchers (that I92 mentioned) that have a shot at 300 wins. After them, no one has a shot at it again. Ever.

Easily the hardest of the 3.

If CC re-ups with the Yankees, I see him getting 300. If not, it will depends on where he goes, imo.

In the NL I agree. Yankees will sign him after his first 168 wins. He will end up with 409. Indians fans will be pissed for years.

They all require incredible longevity and health to achieve them, but I think 300 wins is the toughest... trying to keep your body in shape long enought to average 20 wins a season for 15 years as a pitcher in that league is something you just dont see
