There is a report on MLBTradeRumors that says the Reds are "strongly mulling a sell-a-thon" according to Jayson Stark.

Cordero and Ramon Hernandez are the only 2 names right now I can think of that would draw any interest.

Lewis would probably go to, and possibly Renteria.

Volquez has been getting interest from teams. Fred Lewis and Miguel Cairo both have value and aren't in the long term plans, as much as I love Cairo and what he's done the last 2 seasons. Contenders are always looking for savvy veterans such as Cairo. Renteria obviously has sucked this year but could be coveted by any playoff bound team needing a back up SS.

Why would they sell this year when they have almost everyone locked up for next year?

I'll probably catch hell for this but I wonder what kind of value Stubbs would have. Just curious. I do like Stubbs, even though he drives me nuts sometimes, but I wonder what some teams would give up for a player like him.

This has been a confusing trade deadline as a Reds fan. One second I hear the Reds are looking to add, then I hear they're looking to unload.

I think you deal Ramon because he's a FA after this year I believe, he's 35 years old, and he's having an exceptionally good year. I don't think you can expect this type of production continuing. Also, Mesoraco is pretty good. Ramon will bring you a pretty decent haul IMO.

Coco is also a FA after this year. 36 years old, sometimes wildly inconsistent. I don't think the Reds will try to re-sign him so might as well get something for him.

Cairo is 37 and a FA after next season. He's been good but age is a factor, might as well let him go to a contender and get something for him.

Lewis is a FA after this season. Get something for him if he isn't in your plans.

Volquez is signed through 2011.

I'd listen on everyone. Mesoraco and Hamliton untouchable.....that's it for me.

I don't know if Jocketty knows what to do right now. In just a few days, they went from 3 out to 5.5 out, so they're in a situation where they're still in contention, but they're fading. And would have to pass three teams in their division who all are 4+ in front of them. Not an easy situation to decide to go for it or not.

Because it's a decently old team, that got swept in the playoffs in 1 year, and the next year will probably finish below or at .500.

It's not like they made it to the World Series or even the NLCS. They just had 1 good year, and now look old. They have an awful manager, as well.

Just not a threatening team, at all. Need to make some moves and get younger, better.

I haven't watched Hamilton before. Is he that good? I just heard he steals a bunch of bases and his defense sucks. I know the Olney reported that the Reds labeled Mesoraco and Hamilton both untouchable

Hernandez should be gone regardless. Sell high on him now, his stats are great. He'll be a free agent and Mesoraco is ready

Kind of a crappy way to look at it for us Reds fans, but it's the truth.

The Reds have a bunch of good young players in the organization, but they also have plenty of older players who don't have many productive years ahead of them. Rolen is already done. Cordero, Cairo, Hernandez are all getting up there.

Last year was just a perfect storm that allowed us to win the NL Central. Got career years out of Gomes and Arroyo, Votto went off and had an MVP season, youth really stepped up (Stubbs, Leake, Wood, Heisey), and we got some of the last bits of major league productivity out of Rolen and Cabrera. Not to mention the quality we got out of vets like Cairo amd Rhodes. Even with all that said, we were still very fortunate last year that we stole as many games late as we did.

True. But I'm more concerned out of defense when it comes to SS than 1B. But with that said, Hamilton can't be worse than the defense Janish and Renteria have given us.

Volquez, Hernandez, Cordero. Cairo. Rolen. Maybe some BP help. I think they would keep Bray, Chapman, maybe Masset if they think he is their next closer...and pretty much anyone else I would presume.

Arroyo possible as well....>BUT...he has deferred money in his contract that would be owed to him if he was traded.

I am about to wring my hands of Volequez. Great potential...but he has had one half of a good year. Got ripped in the all star game and has struggled since.

Maybe we'll see in like, 4 years. We'll probably have a 'great' SS tandem of Juan Castro and Brenden Ryan by next year that will keep Hamiltom confined to the minors for a few years.

I see. I really don't pay that much close attention, I always thought of them as a very young team with players locked up.

Not really. Phillips has a club option for 2012, but after that he's admitted that it'll be hard for Cincy to re-sign him. Votto is signed through 2013. If he stays highly productive, he'll be very hard to re-sign for a small market team like the Reds. Cueto, Bruce, and Leake are pretty much the only 'young' ones locked up.

The GM says they are not going to sell and feels they are still within striking distance.

I imagine his tune will change if they lose tonight and tomorrow night.

Last I heard was they were looking to be buyers, but not for this season as much as looking to add pieces for down the road. This could also mean selling pieces that wont be around....so in the process buying via selling.

That means, if they do sell anyone, I would expect they get a young rookie type player or a AAA guy who will be ready soon.
