Hopefully a better result and showing than last year. Henry and Beckham both healthy will help. Gets going in about 30.

I don't understand having this game during the week. I would think better ratings would come on the weekend...

ManU probably doesnt wanna be playing on the weekend. Plus, youd be going against other stuff ratings wise (but I guess, its just baseball...which you go against anyway). Im sure it has to do with ManU though. We definitely get the better ratings playing them or Chelsea or whoever.

I hate that announcers have to make excuses for why the MLS all-star team is down 3 goals.

Just out of curiosity, where would you guys say it ranks in terms of domestic leagues? Obviously not in the top 10, but I would say somewhere in the 15-20 range maybe?

Well, imo:
Spain
England
Germany
Italy
France
Netherlands
Turkey
Mexico
Brazil
Argentina
Portugal
Russia
Greece

USA would be right around next. That was off the top of my head, but Id say about the same as a league like Scotland or the smaller European countries.

Im not a huge soccer fan, but I know that the EPL is way better than the MLS. However, I have a hard time believing any popular professional sport played in America would not be top 10 in the world. Could be wrong, though.

It is not. Trust me. They are not nearly as far behind as they once were though. Id say they are closing in on the likes of Greece, Portugal, Mexico, maybe even Turkey (in a down year where MLS is in an up year).

I would put Brazil #6 after France and would drop Turkey down a few spots, but pretty much agree with the rest of your list. I think the top 10 are pretty consensus, after that it's more of a toss up. Thinking about it a little since I posed the question, I'd also probably have Japan, Ukraine, and possibly Denmark and/or the English Championship ahead of the US too. So I guess MLS would be somewhere in the 15ish range in my rankings.

I agree it's at about the same level as a Scotland, Denmark, etc.

Agreed. There is actually some quality games worth watching in the MLS in now. It's also nice to see the support continue to grow.

Mulva, I actually didnt do that in order, but more off of what came to me. In the end, I thought of the top leagues first, so it is close to my order. But I agree with your Brazil assessment and some of the others. I think MLS is better than the K-League though.

Well, that was disheartening. Much better playing the Fulham, Chivas, and Celtics of the world. ManU just obliterates a band of all-stars who practiced together for a few minutes before the game.

In my post, about even with the MLS I think. They have the better top teams but not as good depth, imo. Then again, I only really see them in CL and Europa League

I can't believe anyone watched this game...the MLS is such a joke, honestly the level of play is just so bad I might as well go watch a single A baseball game

The MLS side didn't play too bad in the first half.

These outcomes aren't surprising it all. It doesn't matter that United doesn't play at full strength. They are still one of, if not THE, top club in the world. The result is what happens when you play an all star team that trained together for how long.....a week maybe?

It's a lose lose situation for the MLS. If you win, its because it's the other team's preseason. If you lose it's because the league is shit.

They play the big squads for the draw, but they would be better off competition wise, as someone already stated, if they played lesser clubs.

The biggest problem with MLS is these players don't regularly play with eachother (other than the few Galaxy players that propogated the roster). So, they come off as ill-equipped to face a team that's been consistently playing as a unit for years (despite additions and subtractions).

Damnnn I completely forgot about that.

Although its a friendly, I don't see either team playing soft. I doubt United's players forgot what happened last time they met. That being said.....I hope Barcelona waxes that ass again.

Yep sucks Messi wont be there (or any of the SA players...Newly signed Alexis Sanchez, Dani Alves, etc). But I suspect Pep will field everyone else at his disposal. Same with Sir Alex, with maybe Hernandez still resting the concussion.
