I looked it up, details are very technical of the five oldest franchises, all had name changes after formation, but before the AL was formed. Wiki says that it's the Phillies, but how can that be true if they were called the Blue Jays from 1943 to 1948? I posted formation of franchise, then first year of current name. I think if you want to get technical, St. Louis Cardinals would be correct.

1. Chicago Cubs, 1876 -1903
2. Cincinnati Reds, 1882-1958
2. Pittsburgh Pirates, 1882-1912
2. St. Louis Cardinals, 1882-1900
5. Philadelphia Phillies, 1883-1890 (1943 to 1948?)

S&L, I know this is sports trivia you play with your department, but if you were to deviate from that for just today, here's a pretty good one:

Today is the 30th anniversary of debut of MTV (8/1/'81)....most people know that the first music video aired was "Video Killed the Radio Star" by the Buggles---what was the second music video played?

Yes the correct team is the Phillies. Even thought they were sometime called the Quakers and Bluejays but they never did drop the name Phillies. They became the Phillies in 1884.

So the question is not regulated to a single name, but multiple names can be involved as long as one of those names remains the same.

But that still does not resolve:

"After purchasing the Philadelphia Phillies, new owner Bob Carpenter thought he could rebrand the perennial losers in Philadelphia by renaming the club. Before the 1943 season, he held a contest to rename the club. The winner received $100 and season tickets. After two seasons going 64-90 and 61-92, Carpenter returned the Phillies name to the club."

How do you return something if it was always called that?

Braves just lost their 10000th yesterday I believe. If it wasn't yesterday it was the loss in the finale of the Pittsburg series.

Yes the 3-1 lost to the Marlins was the number 10,000th for the Braves. Little surprised you didn't post it in the Random MLB Chatter thread since you let us all know when they got win number 10,000th.

Sorry bro, I was golfing yesterday and didn't get to watch the game. You better never miss posting about a game in which the Phillies lose.

No excuses please. It was monumental #10,000 thought you would be all over that since they joined the Phillies as the only two teams in that category.

lol close. I played at Tanglewood. HH is in absolutely horrible shape. I haven't played it this year and only played one scramble there last year. I guess they over-fertilized several greens last year and completely burned them out. #5 (or whatever the first par 5 is) didn't have any grass on the green at all. For the scramble, they stuck a flag stick in the ground about 30 yards short of where the green is. There were 2 circles painted around it. If your approach shot landed in the outer circle, you gave yourself 2 putts and moved on to the next hole. If you made it to the inner circle, you added 1 shot. It was absolutely brutal. It was also up for auction 2 Saturdays ago and only had a couple bids, neither of which met the minimum set by the current owners.

That is a epic fail on his part on so many levels. Besides being wrong; One it was Jefferson Starship since the mid-70's, two the lead singers of the Buggles and JS look nothing alike.
