I'm at my wits end dealing with people at the park who obviously teach their children that dogs are dangerous/dirty. Is this an Asian thing? Our Brittany/lab mix is the friendliest, least dangerous dog on earth and 3 year olds won't touch him.

I love when people come over to the house, and see the husky, and think she is going to eat them. Only thing she will do,, is lick ya to death. LOL

It cracks me up when they jump back and claim my oldest husky is a wolf. Smh.

I think it's fine to exercise caution with children when dealing with dogs. Kids should learn from the start that not every dog is going to be friendly so if it's a dog you don't know, don't race up to it and act crazy. My dog is super nice and pretty much loves everyone, but even he'll get a little spooked if some kid comes running up to him screaming like a little idiot and trying to pet him in the wrong way (going for the face, etc). That said, I don't think parents should teach outright fear...just some caution.

I am a dog person...always have been. My dog is very friendly unless you come into his room (my bedroom). Then he will growl and/or bark but won't actually do anything like bite. He tries to act tough but he is a 15 lb Yorkie mix. Not very scary.

I was never afraid of dogs growing up but I also didn't act crazy excited around them or pet them without their owners permission.

They aren't afraid of your dog. Instaed they are sizing him up for Chinese New Year dinner.

I love my dog, I don't give a f*ck about yours. jk

I teach my son to be cautious around dogs not to be scared of them. You just have to show them who the alpha is and to not be afraid. We have a 85 lb Golden so he is just a big baby and always has been very nice to people but when my daughter was born and we brought her home that shit changed real quick now if he doesnt know you he keeps you at the edge of the sidewalk and always sleeps in front of her door or beside her if she falls asleep on the floor etc. All i'm saying is he doesn't play around when it comes to her.

With the aggressive dogs, as long as the owner is present, I'm fine with them. I got bit by a dalmatian when I was a kid. It wasn't traumatizing, but it was enough to make me remember that some dogs bite. You can just punt the little ones.

I don't think my dog is "better than people", but I certainly care more about my dog than most people.

This poll was confusing because the thread is titled "Are you a dog person?" but the poll asks "Are you afraid of dogs?"

If the poll answer was "yes" or "no" it would be confusing, it is self-explanatory to anyone that reads it.

"I got bit by a dalmatian when I was a kid. It wasn't traumatizing, but it was enough to make me remember that some dogs bite."

I'm sorry to hear that, Dalmations can be a bit skittish, and they are much stronger than the Disney films present.

I like/am comfortable with dogs, but Mrs. FFT isn't. She didn't grow up with them (her parents had bad allergies), so she really dislikes them now. Part of the problem is when we're out on a walk with our 1-year-old and dogs come racing up to lick his face. That's kind of gross, and the owners seemingly aren't aware that random strangers don't want their dog licking our baby's face. Mrs. FFT gets livid when that happens.

I also don't like when dog owners let their dogs poop in our yard and then don't clean it up.

I guess I like dogs, but I think dog owners can be pretty inconsiderate.

I'm a dog person, but will never own a dog. My parents and my wife's parents own dogs, so when the time comes that kids are begging for a dog, they can just visit the grandparents.

I love dogs. But it does annoy me when young couples without kids yet treat their dog like a kid. On the other hand, I hate it when someone who doesn't like dogs comes to MY house and expects me to "put away" the dog for their sake.

This.

I had a buddy, who got a divorce after only two years of marriage. They had gotten a dog just after getting married. She had listed the dog in the divorce that she wanted it. Really? You could just say that you wanted the dog, but, had to have it listed in the settlement, so he couldnt fight her over it?

Why would that annoy you? I mean you're entitled to your opinion/feelings but as long as someone is being a good, responsible pet owner it doesn't matter to me how they treat them in regards to that.
