you send Travis Wood, Edinson Volquez and Yonder Alonso to Colorado

You get Ubaldo Jimenez.

That is the package that Jon Heyman said it may be to land Jimenez.

He also said that they may also be able to get a "top relief pitcher"

That is the only name I could think of since they missed out on Rodriguez.

Don't worry, former Card Ryan Ludwick is out there. If they can't get him they will go after John Mabry.

If I were the Reds GM, I'd find a job where I could compete for championships.

What is Jiminez contract look like?

I am not ready to give up on EV yet. Wood is a dime a dozen type of pitcher, and Alonso is expendable with the roster the reds already have.

I would lean towards yes if Jimenez is under contract for another two seasons.

Signed thru 2012 with club options for 2013 and 2014.

Very tempting. I guess this all comes down to what the reds internally think of Volquez and if he can return to glory.

Thing is...he has had one very good half of a season. Got tanked in the AS game, and has been bad since.

I am thinking I would do it but would have to research Jiminez a bit more

And pretty cheap.

I would definitely trade Volquez for Jimenez. Jimenez is a solid sub-4 era guy. He's not really an Ace, but would be very nice to have behind Cueto. A rotation of:

Cueto
Jimenez
Leake
Chapman
Arroyo

Can you imagine a 3 game series where you have to go from Jimenez to Leake to Chapman or Chapman to Arroyo to Cueto. That would be tough on a team.

I am hoping that Chapman gets into the rotation. I think he can be a randy johnson type of pitcher. I really do. I think they may want him as the closer, which I would not prefer. I think you can find a guy who can be a solid closer, but to find a starter who I think can dominate for quite awhile...I go with starter every time.

Chapman needs to start. Nick Masset can be the closer when CoCo leaves. If he figures out April he'd probably be the best closer in the game.

&^^ Agreed. I think Massett has the stuff to be a great closer, but sometimes guys just flat out cannot handle the pressure.

I think he has nasty stuff...if he can just get that first batter out he faces! Would hate to see how many of his first batters get on.

First batter has a .273/.304/.341 line.

Would do it for two, not three. Price tag seems a little high. Agree with one who mentioned hitting being the problem not pitching. Whats Xavier Nady up to these days?

Ouch. That has to improve to be a starter though as many times when he comes in to save a game the tieing and winning runs will be in place.

I knew it was pretty high, any site show what percentage of his inherited runners score and where he ranks?

From all that I've read, Chapman is likely a starter next season. I don't think there has ever been serious talk about making him a closer, unless he shows that he can't hack it as a starter.
