Fabregas 'comes home' to Barcelona
(AFP) – 1 hour ago

BARCELONA — Spain midfield star Cesc Fabregas Monday completed his marathon move from Arsenal to Barcelona by signing a five-year contract that brought him "back home" to his boyhood club after eight years.

"Cesc has finally joined FC Barcelona, after signing a contract for the next five seasons. His buyout clause will be 200 million euros," the club said in a statement.

Barcelona deputy chairman Josep Maria Bartomeu said the fee was 29 million euros.

"In addition, if we win the league twice and the Champions league once in the next five seasons Arsenal will receive a bonus of five million euros, two (million) for each league win and one for the Champions League," he told a news conference alongside Fabregas.

"Furthermore, over the next five years ... the club will pay one million euros to Arsenal on behalf of Cesc," who is taking a massive salary cut to come to Spain, he said.

Lots of side deals in this one as Barcelona couldn't simply afford the transfer fee. They will pay out a lot on trophies, Cesc is taking a huge pay cut, and until Barcelona have enough money to pay Cesc for this part; he will be paying just over a million a year back to Arsenal. I think the terms show how much he actually wanted to leave. Would've been a big mistake for Arsenal to keep him.

Robbie Keane's transfer is final.

No decision has been made on if Juan Pablo Angel moves and if so, where. It's either Juan Pablo, Beckham, or Landycakes (he's the third DP right?) on the move. I am doubting that Beckham or Landy are moving.

Chivas USA are reportedly interested in Juan Pablo Angel...if..."the price is right."

I really would be surprised if it happened. Chivas strike me as the team that won't spend any money for anyone or anything.

Finally back from london after 2 days of missed flights and delays!

Rumors:

UPDATE: Robbie Keane's move from Tottenham to Los Angeles Galaxy as a designated player has been officially confirmed by the MLS franchise.

In order for the Republic of Ireland striker to find a spot in the Galaxy's roster, he would need another designated player to leave. That player will be Juan Pablo Angel.

"The franchise [LA Galaxy] concluded that it wanted to win the title and it was looking for someone who could help the team do that. My results didn't speak well about me and they were not what I expected and what the franchise expected. If results are not there, players become expendable. This time it was my turn to leave," Angel told Gonzalo Aguirregomezcorta of ESPN Deportes LA in an exclusive interview.

Juan Pablo Angel's move to Chivas USA hasn't been made official yet, but the Colombian striker is speaking about it as if it was a done deal.

One Designated Player leaves and another arrives at Los Angeles Galaxy, as Juan Pablo Angel is reportedly moving to rivals Chivas USA and he frees up one spot in the roster for Irish striker Robbie Keane to join from Tottenham.

According to The Independent, Robbie Keane had everything in place to join Los Angeles Galaxy but had to wait for one Designated Player spot to become available.

That is exactly what is going to happen if what journalist Ives Galarcep wrote on Twitter materializes.

"After initially turn down a potential move to Chivas USA, I'm now told Juan Pablo Angel approved a trade to Chivas USA late last night", said Galarcep on Twitter.

Brek Shea has reportedly attracted interest from clubs in the English Premier League and across Europe.

"There is definitely interest in Brek from the teams in the Premier League, but it's not just England, it's teams from Germany, Holland and Belgium also," is what Shea's agent Spencer Wadsworth told Goal.com.

No clubs' names were mentioned but it wouldn't be surprising that the FC Dallas and USMNT striker could be the next American to continue with his career in Europe after he has impressed this season in MLS.

The next FIFA ranking update doesn't come out until August 24, but it is safe to say that the U.S. will move up two spots from last month's placing.

Stats wizard on Twitter 2010MisterChip has calculated the points gathered by every national team and since there won't be any international action before the next ranking update is announced, he has confirmed the USA will move up from 30th to 28th.

There will be changes at the top too with World Cup runners-up Netherlands taking top spot from World Cup champions Spain. Uruguay's Copa America title sees it as the top South American team in fifth, leaving Brazil (6th) and Argentina (9th) behind.

Among CONCACAF nations, the U.S. only trails Mexico (20th) but has closed the gap a little bit as El Tri stays in the same position.

UPDATE: Atletico Madrid is about to land Brazilian playmaker Diego from Wolfsburg.

Spanish newspaper As says the red and white team from the capital has offered $7 million to the Bundesliga club and a deal is imminent.

UPDATE: "Diego has to leave. If he stays, he won't play," is the word coming out of Wolfsburg about Brazilian playmaker Diego.

Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport says Wolfsburg manager Felix Magath was clear in his intentions to sell Diego and this is a something that gives more strength to the rumors linking the former Juventus star with a move to Atletico Madrid.

Atletico Madrid is looking for a striker and one offensive midfielder to play on the left. Pablo Daniel Osvaldo seems to be the choice when it comes to the striker position, while only one of Diego and Antoine Griezmann will cover the other.
Atletico Madrid manager Gregorio Manzano has handed the names of Diego and Griezmann to the board of directors but has been told only one of them could come, not both. It seems unlikely for Real Sociedad to let go on Griezmann for less than the $43 million the release clause would demand. As for Diego, he would have to take a pay cut from what he is earning in Germany with Wolfsburg.

Glasgow Rangers is apparently interested in American defender Carlos Bocanegra.

According to the BBC, the Scottish club has contacted Saint Etienne to ask about the defender's availability.

If a deal comes true Maurice Edu will have some company in Glasgow and Rangers would be Bocanegra's fifth club and fourth different league (MLS, England and France) in his career.

One day after it saw Cesc Fabregas move to Barcelona, Arsenal has to play Italian club Udinese in a crucial UEFA Champions League qualifying round game.

Despite confirmation from Arsenal that Robin Van Persie will be the club's new captain, the Dutch striker is suspended for this game for a red card he saw in a match against Barcelona last season. Samir Nasri, who could still leave the club this summer, is also suspended.

With so many missing players, originally out of favor striker Nicklas Bendtner could find himself having a role tonight against Udinese after he failed to secure a move to one of the many clubs which were interested in signing him says the Daily Mirror.

In other news, Emmanuel Eboue is really close to signing for Galatasaray. YoungGunsBlog posted a picture on Twitter of Eboue having a medical exam at the Turkish club.

A rumor making the rounds on Twitter links Arsenal with Lille 20-year-old Belgian midfielder Eden Hazard for a fee that could be of about $28 million.

As reported by Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, Udinese will be without injured striker Floro Flores and defender Maurizio Domizzi and will rely on Antonio Di Natale's goalscoring power to try to get a positive result ahead of the second leg in Italy.

UPDATE: Like a chess game's castling Diego Forlan could find himself moving to Inter if Samuel Eto'o ends up in Russia and Pablo Daniel Osvaldo signs for Atletico Madrid.

Eto'o is reportedly very close to moving to Anzhi Makhachkala in Russia in a deal which will give Inter some money to spend and the black and blue club from Milan would opt to use it on Diego Forlan instead of Carlos Tevez.

Spanish newspaper As reports that Forlan would be happy to accept an offer from Inter and compete in a league he hasn't played in after experiences in England and Spain.

A move from Forlan away from Atletico could open the door for Espanyol striker Pablo Daniel Osvaldo. Atletico would also stay in the chase for FC Porto's striker Radamel Falcao Garcia.

Inter plans for life after Samuel Eto'o and it has now set eyes on Uruguayan striker Diego Forlan.

According to Spanish newspaper As, Inter wants Atletico Madrid and Uruguay star Forlan. It remains to be seen whether Forlan will be an alternative for Carlos Tevez or if Inter will try to buy them both.

Forlan said he is happy at Atletico Madrid but he would study any offer which comes his way.

St. Etienne's manager has no interest in selling Bocanegra.

Got that right! I would be surprised if a full move would happen in the January transfer window. It'd be great for him. He's definitely an up and coming young player who has earned his stripes!



Other news: MLS DP rule changed to allow more young international transfers.

Eddie Johnson will be coming back to the MLS. His contract with Fulham has expired and is in the process of going through allocation and assignment with the MLS.

This is not the first time Samir Nasri has to clear the air on Twitter about news or rumors that had no truth behind.

According to the Daily Mail there was a message on Facebook in which a person that pretended to be Nasri said he was leaving Arsenal with "bitterness and anger" in his heart.

Nasri then wrote on Twitter that he is not even on Facebook and that the statement was fake.

He did write on Monday about the abusive chants some Arsenal fans sang against him during the game against Newcastle.

"I heard what the fans were signing about me on Saturday and it is really disrespectful because I'm still an Arsenal player," said Nasri on Twitter.

That doesn't mean he is not joining Manchester City soon.

UPDATE: He wanted to be ready last week but it appears the day for Arjen Robben's comeback with Bayern Munich is today says Sports Illustrated.

The German team faces FC Zurich in a home and away series that will see the winner enter the UEFA Champions League group stages. Robben has been training with the team over the last few days and is considered one of Bayern's best players. With so much at stake in this game, it is hard to imagine manager Jupp Heynckes leaving him out of it.

UPDATE: More injury problems for Bayern Munich ahead of the start of the new Bundesliga season in Germany.

During Wednesday's friendly match against AC Milan, Dutch forward Arjen Robben injured his ankle and had to leave the game.

The injury is not as serious at initially feared, but Robben has already been ruled out of the German Cup game against Eintracht Braunschweig next Monday. According to Eurosport, Robben will now hope to recover on time for the Bundesliga opener against Borussian Moenchengladbach on August 7.

France international Franck Ribery will likely miss the start of the Bundesliga season with an ankle injury.
According to ESPN Soccernet, the Bayern Munich forward was fortunate to only have his ankle ligaments sprained and not worse.

egendary Spanish striker Raul has rejected a possibility to join Blackburn Rovers.

According to Sky Sports, general manager Horst Heldt was quoted on the club's official website saying Schalke wants to keep Raul and the former Real Madrid player has told them to turn down an offer from Blackburn.

Raul was also linked with Bolton Wanderers, but it doesn't seem like he would want to go there either.

It was a disgusting act by Reals Marcelo, who is along with Pepe on of the dirtiest players in soccer. The worst part is it stems from "The Great One" who I swear applauds the action. Just watch what he does at the end of the scuffle. What a joke of a leader. Just a joke. He and Marcelo have multiple suspensions coming. Id venture to say Marcelo is gonna be minimum 5 and Jose minimum 3.

Its sad too, cause it was a great game. 2-2 after a 2-2 tie in Madrid. Headed to extra time when Messi struck in the 88th minute for the de facto winner at the time. Then Madrid goes and does this. Ozil was also sent off, but it isnt seen what he did.

As for Marcelo, I saw that tackle coming from a mile away. He was clearly out to get someone, he is lucky he didn't break Cecs leg. Disgusting tackle. At least 5+ games.

And do we expect anything else from Mourinho? He is as classless as they come.

Messi just turned 24, holy shit. He is probably going to become the greatest club footballer of all time, its only the international game that is holding him back. If he wins a world cup or two, look out.

He is insane. He has 2 more WC in him, at a high level. 1 more as the best player in the world, and probably a 3rd later in his career, as a lat sub or something. I dont know if he will ever win one, but I dont know if it should matter so long as he puts up some solid numbers with Argentina.
