Gomes has a 1.000+ OPS vs LHP

That number is highly skewed by all those walks he got in the first couple weeks of the season. His average is very good (.360) but that's probably from his hot start as well. He's got 3 homers and 2 doubles in 50 official at bats. OK numbers but not if you can only do 1 thing to help the team.

I'm okay with a spot start for Gomes. Find it a little weird that one of the guys who have been struggling pretty much all season and has lost PT gets slotted in the 5th spot upon his return to lineup

I would prefer Cairo in the 5th spot over Gomes.

I'd prefer my mom in the 5th spot over Gomes.

lmao

I don't mind a spot start either, none of these guys are good. Just don't put him in a position where he can possibly get more ABs than Bruce, Cairo, or even Hanny.

Hope Garcia wears down in this heat, it's hot as balls out.

Nice start by Homer.

Nice start by Homer.
Is it hot in Cincy?? Only about 80 degrees here in Ross County.

It's 88 outside my window here in Mason. Humid, no breeze.

Gomes 1 pitch, 1 weak ground out to lead off the inning.

He only has 10 BB vs LHP and 27 vs RHP so I don't think the walks have skewed the OPS. Gomes' best month was actually June. His "hot" start only produced a .828 OPS. He was awful in may with a .545 OPS but had a 1.015 OPS in June.

He had 1 extra base hit in June against LHP. His numbers against LHP have been dropping since April.

His walk rate is higher against LHP than RHP, but it is abnormally high against both. That's why his overall OBP is still good.

In June he actually turned it around against RHP a little.

These "substandard" ball and strike callers can take a good hitter and confuse him so he doesn't know if a real strike will be called or a real ball will be called such.

I'm not going to harp on Gomes batting....I really don't care...just want the Reds to score runs like they should and win.

The problem at batting 5th....no matter how good 1,2,6-9 have been in the order....when 3-5 are knocking in runs, the Reds win.

To me it's more of a slap on Bruce vs the lefty....But Bruce has been solid on lefties and looks comfortable against Garcia.

Jonny Gomes, like lots of Reds hitters, is painfully greedy! If someone who really appreciates the value of getting that run in, like Cairo, was up there, that first slow pitch on the outside would have been plinked out to 2B or into RF such that even if an out is made, the run scores. Wasted a lead-off double again! How many is that in just this series?

Piss ass offense not to move the runner from 2nd on a leadoff double.....Rasmus made a nice play but #4-#6 has to get that run in.....that's the Reds.
